Hello, Just joined. Am a painter who draws. Have been using fountain pens since 1963 and still have and use the one I learned to write with, a 1935 waterman.
It is curious to read about others who like pens.

Hello back...from Upstate Manhattan, also known as Washington Heights. You fall into ballpoints in the late '70s? Great!!!

How did you happen to have a 1935 Waterman when you learned to write?

I had to bring a fountain pen to school to learn script. Most children had either Schaefer cartridge pens or Wearevers. My father pulled out Uncle Harry's fountain pen and gave that to me to take to school. ( cheaper than cartridge pens).

I used that pen through grade school and high school, college and grad school for writing and drawing.

Still have it, still use it, mostly for drawing but it is lovely to write with. I have been using it for fifty years!

I unearthed more family pens and got them in working order but am fond of modern pens because they can live in my pencil case and i dont have to worry about them.

Dear Bitterwonder,

Welcome to the Fountain Pen Geeks forums! Smaller than the largest pen fora, larger than some, you'll find a comfortable community of pen-centric people here, with a growing body of posts, reviews, and group knowledge. Mostly, you'll find people who are enthusiastic about fountain pens, and fountain pen people.
