These are a couple of the beauties I picked up today at the post office. Aren't they lovely? The Snork needs restored and the desk pen needs a base. I think they'll go very well with my first Sheaffer factory stub:

Nice. One long-term goal for me is a Targa (or Targa nib unit) factory stub, but I'll bide my time. A stub Snorkel, now that would be nice, wouldn't it? Hmmm...

That is sweet looking. I need to pull out my Statesman and give it a go.

The FT Madison stub has always been one of my favorite nibs. Here's one of mine, a plain Sterling silver Legacy GT.

Great acquisitions, Dan! I have a vintage Sheaffer stub and a modern Sheaffer stub and both write beautifully. I'm sure you won't have any trouble finding a desk base for the Imperial (Sheaffer made a ton of desk sets). Congrats! :D

Here are my two. I absolutely love the Targa's point. It is so smooth and great for calligraphy. The TM TD is quite an uncommon nib.

Whoa! Serious nibbage there. I have a couple no-nonsense pens with factory stubs...do they count? ;)

The TM TD nib is a beauty, and uncommon as you mention. I've a lot and only a couple that's not either a fine or medium ( one stub ).

Beautiful stubs!

I have one Sheaffer stub on a sterling silver Legacy and the line variation is incredible. It is sharper than the typical stub nib but still smooth. Which reminds me... I ought to ink up that pen again!

this thread makes me realize I haven't a single stub in my small collection. Probably because they are mostly small sized pens.
if you find the stub too large for your writing, is it sacrilege to have it made into an italic? (in a vintage pen).

I don't think so. I think the sacrilege would be turning it to an XXF. :D

Beautiful nibs! Thank you all for sharing your photos of them.

I find that I really love stub nibs but thus far only have one factory stub nib in my small collection (a Parker Vacumatic.) I do have one Sheaffer Lady Balance that Ron Zorn stubbed for me (it was a broad nib.) Looking back on this I wish I had left the nib as it was, not because I don't like the results, because I do, but now it seems a rather rude thing to have done to a vintage nib, especially one made by Sheaffer. :(

So now I have something else on my never ending wish list - a Sheaffer factory stub nib. My Sheaffer Targa would be very happy to have one, I am sure! And I really want to get a Snorkel some day, one with a stub nib would be ideal.....yummmm! If only they were more readily available.

Nope. I would try to make the stub smaller, proportionately. I mean, in my mind. Haven't taken that step yet.

Love the pictures in this thread!

Hi Brian,

Iirc there was a Targa calligraphy set that came with 3 (?) steel points, nicely boxed etc., it would be a neat set to find but I haven't seen one for years.

I know for sure there has been a Targa with a single steel italic nib, because I still have that one. Haven't used it for a long time, but last year I bought a new converter for it.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for the link, Hugh. I vaguely remember having seen such a set in the stores, but it probably was too much of a step up from the little NoNonsense calligraphy sets I was using at the time for this kind of work.

Cheers,
Peter

Sheaffer Repair still has nearly every size Targa nib in steel, including stub, left and right oblique, and (untipped) italic. I ordered a left oblique for my Targa a couple months ago and it is sweetness. I also have a 2.0mm italic that is very crisp, but the oblique is the love of my life.
