As a Christmas gift, I received one of the new colors of the Italix Parson's Essential, the burgundy. The burgundy color is very dark, as you can see in this picture:

I ordered mine with the medium cursive stub nib. The line variation is fairly slight. Here is a closeup of the nib:

And finally, a writing sample. This pen is a joy to write with, and one of my immediate favorites!

Congratulations on your new pen. I have the burgundy PE as well. It too writes beautifully. I fill mine with CultPens Deep Dark Red.
ps you have very nice handwriting

The burgundy looks great, I have an amber but I think I prefer the colour you have.
I got mine with a fine stub and although it writes very well I also found that it gives very little line variation, I considered getting a different nib but the price put me off(it's about £10 more for a complete new pen), seeing the burgundy I might be tempted to get one with an italic or wider stub nib.

I think that the italic would give a greater line variation, however I have heard multiple people say that the italics are sharp enough to cut the paper if you're not careful. I was most impressed by how wet and smooth the nib is, though. It's very enjoyable to write with. I also like the pen enough to get another one, though...so I might try something else as well, next time!

Thanks for the review and for making me want Diamine Burgundy Rose.

Lovely pen, Marne! And always, your handwriting is an inspiration. I'm now reconsidering the Flower set… hmm…

I have inked three colors from the flower set -- the burgundy rose (which, as you can see, is a dark burgundy with distinct brown tones), the Cornflower (which is a bright blue that is slightly reminiscent of Kon Peki, but with a slight purple shade) and the Gerbera. I was most excited about the Gerbera because Gerber Daisies are my favorite flower, and it did not disappoint. It is an orange though, so it's not for everyone. The Flower set is heavy on blues and purples. The Bougainvillea is a REALLY BRIGHT pink, though.

I love it!

They are sold by Mr. Pen, only found in the UK. They have some other lovely colors too, if the burgundy isn't your style!

Congratulations. I love my Parson's Essential in black with a medium oblique nib. So much so that I just ordered the Churchman's Prescriptor with a 1.3 mm and a Captain's Commission with a broad Italic. Can't wait.

It looks like they are using different nibs now. Mne came with a M Schmidt nib ground to a italic.

I have the Amber in Medium Italic and I ordered one exactly like the one in this review (Burgundy Medium Cursive Stub). It arrived just before Christmas and I have been so busy with family to really try it out but the quick dip that I did impressed me with it's smoothness. Great pens from Mr Pen.

I really want to buy one of these. I love the burgundy and the cap band is really unique.

My hold up is the almost $17 in shipping cost to the US! I know the USPS charges exorbitant rates for international shipping but always found rates to the US are reasonable.

That seems a lot. I sent an Esterbrook on loan to someone in the US from here, just before Xmas, and it cost me £3.50. Mind you, it was sent as a standard parcel so delivery probably not as quick as the shipping from Mr Pen.

And yes, it is a beautiful pen for the price.

|I have just acquired a Parson's essential with a medium cursive stub, and find that I get quite a lot of variation from it-more than the OP gets in his review.. In fact at the London meeting on Saturday, a couple of people asked if it was a true italic. It occurs to me that if the nibs are hand finished to the right variant, there may be some variation from one stub to another.
