Today I was able to acquire this pen in Mint and never used condition with an original Namiki wood box and cloth, after searching a bit online I think it is part of an old Namiki Nippon Art series, and is called Namiki Nippon Art Two Cranes.

The ones I´ve seen online have origami cranes, not this ones and say Pilot in the clip and nib, mine says Namiki on both Nib, Clip and box. Pilot is not present anywhere in the pen. Is this usual? Does Pilot/ Namiki marks some pens with Namiki and others with Pilot, if so why?

This type of pens are really not my target.... but this is rather good looking.

I would love more information about it, including date of production, so if you can give me a help, I would appreciate it.

Happy new year everybody!!

Beautiful pen!! IIRC the nib code 585 indicates May 1985. Pilot used to use Namiki name overseas (I think since the days of Dunhil-Namiki). I don't know much about makie-pens, and hope others can fill you in!

Thank you!

Isn't 585 the code for 14Kt gold? (585 of 1000 pure gold content and the remaining 415 of other metals like copper, silver and platinum)

Oops, you are probably right! I guess some Pilot/Namiki pens have nib codes in areas hidden in the section...sorry for the misinformation!!

Goldfish is correct that Pilot/Namiki dates its nibs. If you can't find the date on the side of the nib, it may be hidden under the section. Anyhoo the date will tell you when the pen was made.

AltecGreen wrote a great post (too long to quote) on FPN about Pilot and Namiki name usage. Read that post here. (http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/180284-the-mighty-falcons/?p=1813872)
To recap it:
Pilot is the name of the company. Namiki is the family name of the company founders. Namiki name is used by Pilot in Japan for maki-e pens. In the US we see pens marketed largely as Namiki (and not necessarily maki-e), as well as Pilot.

I read somewhere recently they are supposedly going to be more consistent in their naming conventions. We'll see! Often we just refer to Pilot/Namiki to cover ourselves.

Sorry don't know anything about your beautiful pen! Signed by the artist. I always like to see the signature. Thanks.

P.S. The KMPN blog has this post about how Pilot/Namiki dates the nibs. (http://kmpn.blogspot.com/2010/04/pilot-nibs.html)

Part of the Namiki New Nippon Tradition range, it appears.

IIRC one of the differences between that series and the Nippon Art series is the addition of a gold wire band at the bottom of the cap lip to strengthen that part.
