Hi folks
I've recently found myself becoming more and more interested in fountain pens, and all their related accoutrements, so I guess that this is the place for me.
Unlike some of the other new forum members, I'm not someone who has used a fountain pen before in school, or anywhere else for that matter. I've always loved pens, pencils etc. and fountain pens seem to be the logical conclusion for someone like me.
I've started listening and reading to the Brad Dowdy's, Mike Dudek's and Ed Jelley's of this World, and I'm enjoying what I learn.
I bought my first pen in November; a Kaweco Classic Sport in black. It's great.
I then bought a Lamy Safari, and didn't like it so much. The reason for this was that I couldn't use it without experiencing some "starting" problems, i.e. the ink did not flow until half way through each initial stroke. I changed ink, with no success; then I bought a new nib, changed it (after seeing Brian Goulet's sellotape tip) and it now writes beautifully. Not only that, but I bought a black nib for a black pen, so it also looks much cooler.
I've since bought a clear, "demonstrator" version of each (a Lamy Vista in the case of the latter), but I'm still using the cartridges I initially bought - and in some fairly boring colours, too. That said, I do like the Lamy Blue-Black... and the Lamy Red... I recently bought one of those tiny Kaweco converters so that I can start to use bottled ink, and I guess that's what I'd like to leave you with:
Are there any UK companies that provide ink samples in the way that Brian Goulet does in the US? Shipping from GouletPens seems a bit steep, so I've yet to purchase anything from them and, besides, I like to shop local when I can.
Any info much appreciated and it's a pleasure to be part of your forum.
