A pleasant perennial thread in many fora, what'cha drinking?

It's Saturday and I'm having beer. Right now it's the New Belgium Shift Pale Lager. I like it.

I'm super excited about the background beer, it's been rare as hen's teeth in Maryland forever...

New Belgium Shift - that's in my neck of the woods but I haven't tried it yet. Since it's recommended, I shall.

I've had Hoptimum actually in Chico, CA. as I recall. Depends on my mood because it's hoppy and even though I like most IPA's sometimes it's a bit much. Other times it's dreamy.

Where's my emoticon, Dannzeman? Eriquito?

My parents don't drink--ever. When I grow up, I have made a promise---I will stock a full liquer cabinet, but the bottles will be filled with similar looking non alchoholic drinks......so a bottle of red wine would actually have Currant/blueberry juice in it (which looks exactly the same!). A tea would be in the rum bottle, and a sparkling apple in the champagne bottle....I can only imagine people's reactions!

My favorite drink is currant blueberry juice (in bottles called Connecticut Currant.)

Coffee batch #1 for the day... been lazy lately on weekday morning, the beans have gone stale anyway, so I ground them last night and set up the drip machine on a timer so it was ready when I got up. Not the best coffee, but I have been too lazy/tired in the morning lately to deal with other methods. When things calm down a bit I will be going back to making everything fresh each morning and using an aeropress.

I prefer Marmite but only very thinly spread on the bread or biscuit with butter or margarine.
Don't spread it on thick like peanut butter otherwise it will taste like the tar used to surface roads ! And probably just as good for you too.

Melita Blue Mountain style medium roast coffee. A coffee actually produced in Germany.

GilsDesk
April 27th, 2012, 11:05 AM
FP Kid, I spread it too thick when I first tried it and almost died. Then I met an Australian bloke who told me the right way to do it. Follow Bogon's advice, use some butter, and paint the Vegemite over it in a thin, thin, layer. (Or as the guy explained it to me, a "theen, theen, layya".) You will love it, and turn to it again and again for a B-vitamin rush! I have also tried the Marmite, but I prefer the Vegemite. Don't get anyone from Australia started on which is better, though, unless you have a week or so to spare.

Bogon07
April 28th, 2012, 03:49 AM
I paid close attention to the label this morning and it is actually Promite not Marmite !!! So you've a choice of three if you are really daring.

Tonight's wine was Tolly's Watercolour Cabernet Merlot Vintage 2009.
Ok wine I was drawn to the bottle by the very artistic blue W which reminds me of the Goulet's inkblot logo with a touch of purple too.

I am drinking soy milk for health reasons. I am not lactose intolerant but the fat in milk is not good for me. Soy milk tastes a whole lot better than skim milk IMHO.

Home made soy milk does taste differrent from store bought soy milk. It has a more earthy taste to it that I like. I love the taste of earthy whole grains and the taste is similar. I will admit that it is probably an aquired taste. When you pay around $4-$5 for a half gallon of soy milk and realize that for the same price you can make around 5 gallons of the stuff yourself, the incentive is clear. :) There is no waste either. The cocunut cookies are a byproduct of the soy milk making process. :D

How cold's it get in Sydney? Scorching hot around here this weekend.

I've had a few Sierra Nevada Pale Ale cans this evening. cans are new for them this year, I've really been enjoying them.

I think it was around 10degreesC in the house yesterday. It was actually a fair bit warmer outside in the sun yesterday afternoon maybe 16-18 out of the breeze.

Peach Sencha tea.

10ºC in your house?! :smow: Is that thermostatically controlled? 16-18ºC outside is really very nice. It was a cool 37ºC here today so I guess 10ºC would be a good change.

Cheers,
Rich

No thermostatic control but we do have a reverse-cycle air-conditioner at each end of the house which can warm things up a bit in winter when necessary.

In another 5 or 6 months we'll have temps around 37ºC too. The occassional day is too bad but a week or more in that range is cronic.

Remember to hydrate or as I saw in a recent advertisement 'waterize' yourself in the heat.

Currently beveraging a cup of pale tip green tea that I've forgotten the name of.

To be followed later by a lemonade fruit from our tree. They are very sweet lemons hybridized with some other citrus.

your new brewer may not be getting the water hot enough. it should be brewing with water that's near boiling. 88C is about right. Some home machines only get water to aout 70C which will make a lousy cup. Also check your grind, water quality and the freshness of your coffee.

Yemen Mocca Sanani - This coffee originates from the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, where true Mochas are born. One of the oldest coffees in the world, it has been praised by some of the highest authorities on the subject. Packed with flavor and aroma, this coffee is as smooth as it is sharp and bright in acidity. It features overtones of chocolate and cherry, with a deep and bold red wine
quality. These beans are also naturally lower in caffeine.

I will have to keep a lookout for this next time we're coffee shopping.
