And after carefully cutting the thoughtfully placed tape and emptying the packing peanuts from the small box I am met with yet another small box. I only have a few minutes between coffee and having to leave for work, so instead of setting up the big camera I break out my phone to document the unboxing of this year's birthday present to myself.

This looks promising........

OOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOooooo Pretty! There is quite a bit of documentation from this Richard fellow.......

This pen is absolutely stunning. Marble. Pearl. Magic.

Pointy nib is pointy.

Now for the big test. I wanted a pen at least the size of a 149......... Mission Accomplished.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7442/12314851733_595eeee1b5_b.jpg

I gave the pen a quick wash and inked it up with Diamine Syrah. Let's see how she writes....

Now, I'm not normally one to gush on and on about things in general, BUT THIS NIB IS MAGIC. I ordered an XF/XXF Duo-Point full flex nib. It is extra fine on one side, extra extra fine on the other side, AND PERFECTLY SMOOTH ON BOTH SIDES. I have other pens with extra fine and extra extra fine nibs. Even with careful handling I will get toothy feedback and the occasional fatal stabbing of unsuspecting paper. This pen lets me make wild flourishes in any direction while being smooth all the while. Richard is literally a wizard because this nib is magic. The feed keeps up even when flex writing at speed. It's a juicy fire hose when flexing and lays down a reasonable, not too dry, not too wet, but JUST right line when writing normally. I'm gushing. I can't help it. It's awesome.

I took the pen to work with me and played around at lunch....

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7310/12315130294_96f5dba601_b.jpg

I used the right side for the writing then flipped the pen over and used the wrong side to cross the T. The line variation between the flex writing and the crossed T is quite dramtic and the xxf grind will lay down ink no matter how lightly you are touching the paper. It's crazy.

I had very high expectations when I ordered this pen and both Brian and Richard have taken those expectations, punched them in the face, stole their lunch money, commandeered a speed boat, and rode out into the sunset full throttle with the Miami Vice theme song blaring. Epic.

I have some big camera shots I'm processing now...... more inky fun to follow.

edit.....
I just realized I didn't include the name of the pen which is helpful if someone is searching for photos of said pen......

Edison Collier Silver Marble Richard Binder duopoint duo point duo-point xf/xxf full flex nib.

that should do it.

Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos of this pen. To date, these are the best photos I've seen of this particular acrylic. And, that nib looks like a dream. Congratulations. Happy Birthday, too! =)

"Edison Collier Silver Marble Richard Binder duopoint duo point duo-point xf/xxf full flex nib."
If ever there was a pen befitting such a long name this is it. Such beautiful & opulent material. Brian Gray does some astounding work and the nib sure seems to deliver.

Wonderful hand-writing and photography. A great show case of the complete package.

And a Happy belated birthday too.

Thank you all for the compliments and belated birthday wishes, however, my birthday is later this month LOL. I ordered the pen ahead of time as I was not sure what the lead time on the nib grind would be. I didn't want to order it on my birthday and then mope around all sad and penless, waiting for it to arrive.

Late to the congratulating mob, but man! That pen and nib deserve a parade.
The sound of "Wooooo"s and "Ahhhhh"s are echoing in my head.

Happy birthday!

Gorgeous! Thanks for all the photos. Gosh, I've been seriously considering a Pilot Falcon with John Mottishaw's Spencerian customization and now I'm in a tizzy. Edison pens are sooo pretty.

Happy birthday to you!
