Duke has always been known as a higher quality and consequently more expensive pen, but I was really surprised when I saw this one. I am interested in your opinions, is this relatively inexpensive, in the Chinese manner, or is this just an outrageously expensive pretty pen.

No closeup hallmark shots?
To be honest, I'm skeptical about how much of the pen, other than the nib, is sold gold.

Thank you for your good humour. I had been in a foul mood due to the weather, but you made me smile.

I find the names of all Chinese pens curiously interesting, in the same way as those of my indigenous neighbours.

I thought it was an emperors hat of the kind worn in the Forbidden City.

Who will pay $850 for a Chinese pen, no matter it comes with solid gold nib.:hippie:

Hisnibs has a better looking pagoda pen for $35. It's a Jinhao...

I think the pagoda top is meant to resemble the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, hence the name.
I agree with Scrawler that it's just a gift giving pen.
If one day S T Dupont makes a Temple of Heaven LE pen, that would be exciting. Not that I would be able to afford one, but I can dream...

I disagree with your assertion that the Pagoda pen is better looking. The colour of the gold is shiny and plasticky looking. If my purpose were to put them in a glass cabinet to admire their beauty and artistry, then the Duke would be the one I would put in. However I do not think it is $800 better looking.

Despite the protestations of the nay-sayers, I will be happy to receive such an item as a symbol of the esteem, in which you hold me. :applause:

Just becasue you pay a lot for it does not mean that it is not still cheap.
Of course, just because you did not pay much for a pen does not mean that it is not a monster pen.
If this was given to me I would say thank you and promptly chunk it into "the box."
