View Full Version : Mission Possible: De-clipping a Danitrio

I have had this Danitrio Komori for about five years, and the clip design has always slightly offended my sense of beauty. The pen is gorgeous, but the clip was incongruous - and why was it placed over the setting sun with the silhouetted bats when there was a nice dark area on the other side?

Last night, my dear friend coffe_cup on fpn (a specialist in vintage pens primarily) used her inner-cap puller to get at the screw to take off the clip, which was much faster and safer than my intended method of wiggling the clip back and forth and up and down until it broke off.

Now, the clip is intact and can be easily re-attached should I ever feel the need for it.

There is a tiny slot in the cap, yes, but it is much easier to ignore than the flashy gold clip with DANITRIO lasered in block print on it.

Many thanks to coffe_cup!

Much better IMHO.. The clip hole looks like a bat cave now :D

It must've been nerve racking to both of you. Thumbs up to coffe_cup!

I was more nervous than she. Have you seen an inner-cap puller? It's like a speculum for pen caps.

Something tangent -- the same can be done with most Omas pens! The inner cap may be removed to replace/remove/fix the clip :)

Such a beautiful pen. That clip looks okay on the Cumlaude but not on the Komori. Glad you decided not to wiggle the clip until it gave up.

I bet he said this isn't going to hurt at all. Without the clip - very nice. :)

Actually, she kept saying that she had to go slowly and carefully, because she didn't want to crack the cap, and then she tried to hand the contraption and the cap to me to let me try.

Ahh... I don't think I want to try something like this on a $2,000 pen (that isn't what I paid for it five years ago, but I noticed that was the listed price on the Danitrio website).

Of course, I'll try to meister Aurora, Montblanc, Danitrio, and so on NIBS, hahaha, but mistakes there mean replacing the nib, not a maki-e cap.

(Smiley face.)

Did she warm the cap-puller first?

Lisa, that pen has aged beautifully! (I remember when you got it.)

You cracked me up with that one, Jon!

Thank you. I have to agree - this pen is gorgeous. Kevin (winedoc on fpn) had posted photos, and the Komori caught my eye. I'd set up a Pen Posse Danitrio, and Kevin said he'd of course bring the pen. I brought cash, but I didn't really want to part with it. I was hoping that the pen was ugly in my hands; I was hoping something was irreparable wrong with the nib (with all Danitrio nibs).

Yeah.

As soon as the pen was in my hands and I saw the one of the bat's eyes flash, I put the cash in Kevin's hands faster'n a junkie jonesin' for a cliche. And the deep, creamy red.... I have never regretted buying this pen.

Cary, I'm glad I didn't bend the clip off, too. On the one hand, my impatient methods have taught me resourcefulness and acceptance. But there really was no need to test myself with the Komori. It could have been a hard lesson. (Laughing.)

It is a lovely pen, but what an odd place to put the clip, especially since there's no art on the other side. It looks much better now. I really like that reply about the bat cave. Perfect.
