Hi,

A while ago, I bought a Jinhao "Elegant Writer," which seems to be part of their porcelain series. It's a very pretty pen.

The problem is the nib. It works fine, but it's a medium and I like a fine nib.

I bought a Jinhao 459 from Goulet Pens and changed the nib to one of their EF Goulet nibs. Clearly, the nib in this pen is not a #6, but I don't know what it is and whether it is even possible to swap the nib out for something else.

Basically, I wondered if anyone else had experience with this pen and knows if it is possible to swap out the nib.

Thank you in advance for any advice or help you can give, even if it is that I have to learn to love the nib it has (which is still a very pretty nib).

I was looking for a picture of the Jinhao "Elegant Writer" but came up empty. It may be able to be changed out but you need to find the right size nib. That can be difficult without having a stack of nibs to try out. Pen shows would be great for that. Most of the Chinese pens have nibs and feeds that can be pulled straight out, something like this (Not a Chinese pen in the picture):

I would guess that the nib you are looking for is a #5 only because you said it was not a #6 and I have not seen anything bigger than a 6 on Chinese pens. It is only a guess though, nibs can be smaller.

I'm not 100% sure but the porcelain pen i had a while ago was either an x650 or an x950 both of which were no6 nibs, Personally i never had a problem with them but someone i know did and they said the goulet no6 is not always a "no6" if you get my drift and he tried a Knox k35 and that he said solved all his issues as i'm in the UK and new to the hobby i have no experience of goulet or Knox nibs i just thought the info may help.

I have gone to the Goulet Customer Service team with this sort of question and had them point me in the right direction.

Thank you for the suggestion, VertOlive. I have emailed them. And thanks also to Ivan for the photos. I think I am at least going to try to switch it out with a Plumix nib or something smaller (to my eye) if Goulet has no suggestions.
