Idea for a field trip:
"Pen Central" to the Baltimore Pen Show via Amtrak on Sat., Mar. 1.

The Baltimore Pen Show is coming up on Mar 1-2.

Anyone going from Philadelphia (or points north, as Train #131 goes from Boston to DC)
Train # 131 lvs Phila. 8:13--arrives BWI 9:43 --
Price is $46 (about 1/2 a good pen!)

There's a shuttle (and a bus route) to the hotel right from BWI. If anyone's interested, suggest pen people could meet in the cafe car to chat pens, and hand-write some letters on the train--if the cafe's full--then in the car right next to it.

A good return trip would be :

Train #146 at 4:52 or #192 at 5:47 either time is $46.

(on the way back could review the show and/or show off any acquisitions....)
Not the cheapest of days, but could be fun to do some writing and chatting on the train, esp. if we manage to snag a table or two in the cafe car, or a group of seats in the car next to it.

Email mcget@aol.com if this "field trip" idea is interesting.

(day job: proprietor of Trophy Bikes in Northern Liberties, but spending time in the "analog" writing worlds of fountain pens and manual typewriting as well )

PS: While there are OK snacks in Amtrak's cafe cars, strongly recommend bringing a little thermos (can get decent coffee at Bucks Cty. in 30th St. Station) if you are even a little bit particular about how your coffee tastes--Amtrak could have inspired Winston Churchill's famous plea: "If this is tea, bring me coffee, and if this is coffee, please bring me tea."

Nice idea! We are going & have been planning to drive; however, continuing to watch weather & have given a little thought to using train (which we like) instead. Will share your post in AM with family; We'd have to board in Wilmington & check out parking at station & Sunday trains/schedules back. Thanks for your efforts; sounds really like a nice idea now that Bert has us using this new venue that has a lot of conveniences associated with its selection.
