As always, full review with all images here: http://bit.ly/1o6FtTA (http://bit.ly/1o6FtTA)

This is the Ohto Dude fountain pen made in Japan. It’s a brass body pen that is then coated in one of several colors. This silver body version is the one that would be at the top of my list of colors but they also have blue, purple and black available. It’s a hexagonal body shape for most of the pen but it rounds off at the ends and where the cap and body meet. It has a flat, modern clip that is silver no matter which body color you chose. It’s a good mix of modern and classic styling in my opinion. It’s also an under $30 pen which gives it added appeal for many people.

The brass body makes this pen feel like a metal pen in terms how solid it feels. It weighs more than acrylic counterpart would of course but it doesn’t feel ‘hefty’ at all. The body is almost a matte silver but the accents at the tips, the clip and the ring between the body and cap are all shiny chrome. The section is an ergonomically curved hard plastic. The nib indicates it is an iridium nib as well. It takes any international short size ink cartridge.

The cap is a click cap but it has one of the more satisfyingly solid connections. It almost feels hydraulic as you click it on and off. The clip is appropriately sized for the pen I think but it is a bit smaller than my other pens on average. It’s a straight bend out clip and it has no spring or leverage mechanism but it works well. It might not work though for thick pockets. Also on the cap is the name of the pen along with ‘made in Japan’ printed not so inconspicuously.

The printing on the barrel honestly keeps this pen from stretching beyond its range. Almost every other aspect exceeds what I would expect to get in a pen priced in the twenty something dollar range but I wouldn’t pay into the thirties with that design oversight. In my opinion though this pen is a great find at just under $25 from Jetpens.com. It’s well balanced, writes smoothly, has a great build quality and looks clean and modern without jumping into another world apart from traditional pens all together. I have enjoyed using it over the last couple of weeks and I could easily see it staying in my regular rotation.

I also want to mention that I have seen some poor reviews on some other pen blogs primarily attributed to nib issues. I can only review the pen I have and in my experience those reviews leave out the possibility that they got a bad seed. That being said though it might be another reason this pen is priced in this range as quality control may not meet everyone expectations. But again, for me, this pen writes a smooth line all day long.

Pen dimensions:
Approximately 5.3 inches (13.5 cm) long when capped, 6.1 inches (15.5 cm) long from tip of nib to end of cap when cap is posted on back of pen barrel, and 0.5 inches (12 mm) in diameter.

Interesting pen, the chrome accents help--but the printing on the cap is a downer. Thanks for the very thorough review!

I'm hoping with use it might slowly wear off.

Yeah, I don't mind it either, but I read it as .. "Made in Japan, DUDE", so that tickles my fancy. :)
