The ascender on the "d" and the flourished descender on the "s" make a really lovely balance.

Ditto that---the ascenders/descenders almost obviate the need for the other elaborations. Very nice!

Me either! It's beautiful. Looking at these, I can't help thinking about all the previous scribes, going back hundreds of years, who have written those words in that style. Quite
a tradition you're preserving, Manny.

(Can I ask what pen/nib you're using for this one?)

SK, Rotring Artpen 1.1mm, Edelstein Amber, and Muji notebook (http://www.muji.us/store/stationery/notebooks.html). And on the background stack:
Piccadilly A7 (http://piccadillyinc.com/products/notebooks) and Design.Y model 288 (http://design-y.near-mint.com/model288.html) notebooks. As you can see, I like a bit of variety. They cost from two to fifty bucks a pop, but I reckon they are all good value in each category.

I'm a noob to writing neatly in general, and italic in particular (since last Friday), but this is what our pastor preached from yesterday.

I need to work on constant slope (no f's are sloped?) and spacing.

How's things? I messaged you a while back but no reply, so I just assumed you were busy. Hope all is well.

Will be getting a new computer this week, so I'll be able to post some of my own as you suggested. Do they have to be from the new testament?

Sorry I'm so late. The Mac died and the new one's in the post at the moment. We've been needing a PC laptop for my dad to use as an art resource and for school work and haven't been able to afford one (the only way we can afford the Mac is through the monthly payments thing) and yesterday my nan gave us this nearly new Dell Inspiron laptop! How cool's that?

Excuse the rough handwriting, this was done quite late and I didn't have the use of my drawing board at the time.

Even when the letters are inconsistent it still looks cool, and yes, fun to write!

Thanks, manny. And thanks for the inspiration with uncial and the nib.

Psalm 132 is the longest passage I've written yet.

That's great, tony. Do you speak Latin? I've tried to learn a few times (along with Irish Gaelic), but I'm not disciplined enough with languages to teach myself.

Here are the last of the psalms of ascent. The Hallel psalms are next, it being Holy Week and all.

When I write slowly, I forget how to spell, apparently.

Thanks mate. I do, well sort of, because I belong to a Parish in the 'Extraordinary Form' of Roman rite (as they call it nowadays), and everything is in Latin. So, after a bit of basic grammar, I got the hang of it rather quickly from habitual usage. But I still read the translation in the missal for hard to parse stuff, such as the Collect etc. However, I must add that it isn't about liturgical or intellectual snobbery, but rather a providential luxury... just like fountain pens... similar to "a flex pen or a ballpoint, doesn't matter to a Manny" analogy :) The same goes with holiness and different rites, imho.

So, for example when I read your Ps 133. I can relate to "sicut unguentum quod descendit in barbam Aaron" from habitual memory,.. Something like that. Btw, great penmanship bro.. :thumb:

Thanks for the info. I've always heard regular usage and immersion is best. The closest I've gotten is when I took two years of Russian in college.

And thanks. I'm still trying to get comfortable with uncials. Writing the psalms is great practice, both with penmanship and scriptural study. Tonight I'm trying to get through all 29 (!) verses of psalms 118.

My wife and I are going to try and copy John 17-19 tomorrow night after our Maundy Thursday service. "Watch and pray"!
