Over the past week I developed some envelope templates that can be printed on standard US paper sizes and yield some useful sized envelopes. There are three different envelopes that will hold quarter folded US Letter and A4 sheets and also will hold half folded 6x9, 5.5x8.5 and A5 sheets. Another size is the smallest USPS mailable "standard" envelope size, which can be made from a 6x9 sheet.

These templates have no instructions, branding, graphics, or words in the area that will be the cut out envelope unlike most of the other free templates I could find, and are carefully sized to be rectangles (not parallelograms) and USPS legal without square shape surcharges.

The templates are free, public domain, and available as PDF or Open Office Draw documents.

If you have any interest, please check out mrcharlie's envelope templates (http://www.deathstar.org/~cmc/envelopes/). Let me know if you have any issues.

After publishing this, I realized my "non-standard" envelope of 4.6" x 6.35" was within 3 mm of being an ISO C6 Standard envelope in both dimensions. I hadn't thought of looking at its dimensions in mm and comparing it to the ISO standards; there was no reason to suppose it would even be close.

Aww, heck; I thought I was done with this. So I modified that template to be exactly an ISO C6 Standard envelope and updated the webpage.

Thanks for the thanks.

If you need a 4" x 5.5" envelope, the one at Lettering Delights (http://www.letteringdelights.com/searchsite_detail.php?id=226) is good, and only requires 7 1/8" square of paper. This basic design was the inspiration for my pointy flap C6 sized envelope.

Apparently I am addicted to CAD, as I have added a Straight Flap version of the ISO C6 sized envelope (http://www.deathstar.org/~cmc/envelopes/#C6Straight). It will work on paper as small as 7.5" x 10". It will work on an A4 sheet.

FWIW, I made it to use on pages from a Patagonia catalog someone left out at the local PO; the catalog is 7.5" x 10.5" and has some nice photo images that are full page with no text. Some other pages had a photo with text only on the bottom few inches, and I used the Lettering Delights template on those.
