I recently purchased from one of the FPN-ners, this interesting binde-less one-piece-barrel demonstrator Pelikan 100N he bought from Rick Propas amongst other pens. Before I got it, the seller had Mr Propas service the demonstrator with a new cork and fuse a crack, and I haven't used it since.

Pelikan is not my area of focus, I won't use it, and I don't feel right keeping this particular pen.

According to Mr Propas, it's one of two demonstrators he's ever seen.

I will quote Rick's recount (http://www.thepenguinpen.com/pelikan/detail/pe2906.jsp) of this pen, because I can't do it justice:

"ca. 1938 Pelikan 100N clear celluloid barrel with hard rubber. This one has a worthy backstory. Several years ago a South American pen dealer came to me with an example of this. I examined it and determined to my satisfaction that it was real, even though it appeared in no catalogue. What is it? A Pelikan 100N demonstrator. Not just a shaft without a binde, but this has a built up area where the binde would have gone. I've not really known what to make of it other than to think "how cool?" Now another has crossed my path and I am willing to offer it up to those who value the esoteric. Is it real? Yes, I believe so, especially with the emergence of a second example."

The pen was sold as it came to him -- some wear to the the trim and hard rubber parts, a crack he fused in the latest repair.

The nib is a deliciously flexy Fine/medium.

A rare pen with mysterious origins and a unique construction, certainly a worthwhile addition to any serious collector.
