View Full Version : What's the significance of the Safari two-part feed?

Hello there!

I have a question about the two-part feed of my LAMY Safari. In my quest to increase the net ink flow (not just the ink flow of the nib), I've experimented with removing the small slider part of the feed. My first impression was that the ink flow increased by a bit. But then I've re-installed it and I'm not even sure if the flow is greater than before or not.

Does anyone know why this part is detachable at all and what its significance is? Any experience with ink flow with respect to the presence of this part?

To simplify the injection molding process.

That seems reasonable.

Over the last few months I kept experimenting with that little part. I am now certain beyond any doubt that removing the thing will dramatically increase ink flow. Again I'm talking about the maximum flow rate from the reservoir to the nib, not the nib rate. So, for anyone looking to increase the ink flow of a Safari beyond a wide open nib slit, this is the way to go. I couldn't observe any dry out issues, but then again I'm using this pen at least once a week.
