Only had a fountain pen once in Middle School when living in Germany, but didn't get back into it until I noticed one of my Facebook Friends (Ray) was showing off various fountain pens and fountain pen news so decided to get back into it around late February... now I got quite a few fountain pens (still itching for more... MOAR!).

Though on the practical side I'd like to work on my penmanship again which I haven't done in so long, and using a fountain pen is much easier on my hands (and it seems like longhand is dying, I know cursive, but on campus seems like some of the younger classmates haven't learned it).

Locally I don't really know anyone who uses FPs, except for those I've given away pens to.

I currently have 25 pens (a PIF or trade is in order...), mix of modern and vintage.

Am on another FP related board (not sure if mentioning is in the rules or not) since around that time in february.

I haven't lived in Grand Rapids since 2001 (since around 2002-2003), but that sounds about right, depending on the location seems a lot of schools dropped it between 15 and 20 years ago. One of my classmates from last semester who is 20 said she never learned cursive in school, so wasn't able to read my notes, quite legible, just in cursive.

I learned it growing up, so I still remember it, just have to get used to writing it again on a regular basis.

I am left handed and write with a mixture normally. So yeah I can read all my penpals from here :)

:welcome: I love your avatar! What do you have in your collection?

I didn't really learn cursive either. I bounced from school to school for a little bit, so when I settled... Everyone had gorgeous cursive and I sadly had to spend my summer and winter trying to catch up. It's still getting better though! I look forward to seeing what you post around here.

Lovely pen collection and long live cursive!! I'm old too and was taught in school. Lamentable that it has been retired from the curriculum. But folks like us will keep it alive. I look forward to your posts!

Welcome welcome. I personally find writing letters long hand good practice for cursive.

Not you for sure!!
I still don't see that tidy cursive is a different language to printing, the letters are similar in shape.

I, Ss, m, n, r and Zz are odd letters if you never learned official cursive

I write a hybrid that may annoy people

It's 'meh', hard-starter, burps a blob of ink (rarely, but has happened least twice), but once started it seems to go consistent ,and produces a line similar to a western extra-fine, not scratchy, not smooth, etc. :P It's one of the least used in the collection.

:P True, but even though I can read capital S, I still haven't gotten around to smoothly writing it :P, Zz is fun to write, it's almost identical to Ru in Japanese Hiragana (る).

Hybrids shouldn't be a problem unless they can't read one of them to begin with.
