Just was reading my Jetpens newsletter email and I see a Maki-e Platinum Gel roller pen. $66.00 USD for a maki-e pen???

Exactly, and I did not know they exist in maki-e finish.

Is it real maki-e or a screen printed alternative? Still, if I used gel pens more I would get one.

My guess is it can't be the real thing at that price and this snippet from the description:

This 0.5 mm fine point gel roller is made of AS resin and exquisitely decorated with Japanese style Maki-e painting.

The word style makes me think it can stretch the definition of maki-e.

At that price it has to be some kind of manufactured print.
