Great pen. There are some microscratches throughout the body.. In the pictures there is some polish I forgot to wipe off under the clip. Can upgrade to 9XXX nib for slight additional fee.
I would rate the condition of this pen as B.

Asking $25 Shipped.

Final price drop before I decide to keep it.

I should have updated the OP. The Esterbrook SJ was sold earlier this weekend.

Is the SJ transitional too?

No it wasn't.

Currently I would like to keep the sale within CONUS. I use USPS Priority and it can get expensive outside the US.

There is no such thing as an "SJ Transitional".

I didn't think there was either until I did a Google search.

Apparently there was a Transitional SJ. It's just pretty rare to find. I've been through 30 Esterbrooks and never seen one.

Don't believe everything on the net. I'd be willing to pose this question to Brian Anderson himself, but certainly his comprehensive Esterbrook history shows no sign of it. The J family sprang from the Transitionals, which came in one size only, the only variations being in the hardware.

I have a red SJ with a smooth black cap jewel and the barrel end is cut off like the transitional Js. So, what is it?

12239I have a similar situation with grey transitionals.

Holy shit. Must investigate!

Ok, I've written to the experts. I'll report back...

I stand corrected.

No, really, I'm standing up while I'm typing this. There were, apparently, some SJ sized Transitionals. I'll report fully when I have all the rest of the data. I have, once again, learned something new.

That's a really great price and someone should snap this up.

The pen has been sold so I'm going to close this thread to avoid any confusion.

I'm interested in your findings and would like to see the result so hopefully we can continue this discussion in another thread.
