I was recently the recipient of a fabulously generous PIF from our own migo984. (see her PIF thread for pics of the gorgeous boxes!) These came from the bespoke series Sailor made for the Kingdom Note store in Japan for their 5th anniversary. There are 3 sets of 5 inks each:

1. Birds of Japan
2) Insects of Japan
3) Fungi of Japan

These are fairly difficult ( well, pricey actually) to obtain here in the US. I found one source who sells out of Japan.

The colors were each one subtle and a bit surprising.

I was able to choose five of these and would like to share a modest review of those inks below:

Paper: Rhodia white notepad
Pens: Sheaffer Calligraphy Fine, Ernst Glass Dip Pen

Two mushrooms and a bug:

Two birds:

I'd never have gotten to use these if not for migo's lavish gift!

If anyone would like a postcard with writing samples of all five of these inks, please send me a pm.

Wow - they got to you quickly. I only posted them on Saturday afternoon!
Your writing samples look really great. I do love these inks (well, all Sailor inks actually). I think the S.aeruginosa is possibly my favourite of the 5.
I'm pleased you like them :)

I agree about the green. I thought the mushroom set was the most intriguing.

Huh. I need to look at my post card in better light. Here, the S. Aeruginosa looks like a warm grey. A fascinating warm grey, with brown and green and almost *pinkish* (read, fleshy) undertones.

Or maybe I'm imagining it.

But it seems really mushroomy

Hey, VertOlive,

I got the postcard, and I love #1 and #5 the most (because of the shading), but all of the colors are really beautiful. What pen did you use?

Forgot to say that I loved the postcard picture as well. It was quite apt.

If you mean which pens on the post card:

Mini TWSBI 1.5 stub--A. muscaria
Lamy Safari 1.1 nib--S.aeruginosa
Levenger TW--Signature nib--T. dichotomus
Monteverde Prima 1.1 nib--F. peregrinus
Edison Nouveau 1.1 nib--A. galericulata

I tried to use broader nibs to show the ink better.

I've since taken delivery of two bottles of two additional colors in this line: T. japonensis [Evening Cicada] and N. nippon [Crested Ibis]--both just luminous!

Hi VertOlive,

Yesterday your postcard was waiting for me at home when I returned from work. Thank you very much.

Also thank you for letting us know which pens / nibs you used for the sample writing.

Kind regards,

Rui

My sample looks as green as Vert's photo in the first post. Interesting. Maybe it's the paper? Mine arrived on Tomoe River.
