Hello all,

I am enjoying collecting the various different colours particularly the discontinued and rare ones.

Here is a picture showing (in the middle) a Safari i bought recently. It is next to a Savannah and a discontinued red/red clip version.

As you will note, the middle pen is short like the Savannah. It is not as red as the modern pen (more brown, but not orange). It does have a black clip. It is not matt like the savannah and not glossy like the red/red either.

Can anyone prove advice on what I have please?

TIA

No idea, but fascinating! What does the 'jewel' look like? Where did you get it?

I have packed it way, but IIRC it is a black cross like the savannah. Bought it from a pen show, it as in a box of spares, parts and cheapies.

Curiouser and curiouser!

Don't we have a resident Safari color expert? Who has all the Safaris I want but can't afford?

PS: just occurred to me...did they make the Terra Cotta with a black clip?

Is it not just the old style red? I have both, the new one with a silver clip and the older version with the black clip. The older version is a deeper red. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/23/a5e5e6y3.jpg

It also looks to be smaller. Why did they make the old red and the Savannah smaller?

Case is solved, perhaps? Even if not, it's a nice addition.

It does indeed look to be solved :)

Thanks Toffer.

I hadn't realised there was an old style red. Anyone tell me the date range in which these were produced?

KMPN has some useful references on Safaris. More info & pictures on the blog site.

http://kmpn.blogspot.com.au/2009/06/lamy-safari-special-editions.html

some of the regular production versions,
vista (transparent), hot (red), sky (blue), safari (yellow), s2 (charcoal), griso (grey), alpin (white).
the griso (grey) had matt finish and alpin (white with black clip) were available as matt and glossy finish. alpin and griso were discontinued. Lamy stopped using the term hot, sky and s2 in 2008, and replaced them with shiny red, shiny blue and matt charcol.

In 2010, the yellow, red and blue safari are replaced with the chrome clips and chrome nibs (http://kmpn.blogspot.com/2010/03/lamy-safari-with-chrome-clip-and-nib.html). and the yellow safari (http://kmpn.blogspot.com/2010/06/lamy-safari-yellow-with-chrome-clip.html) is "fresher" in color

SK - "PS: just occurred to me...did they make the Terra Cotta with a black clip?" The picture on KMPN shows a black clip.

Thanks Bogon07. So a "hot red". I think what I found confusing was the size - I have an Alpin too but not to hand. IIRC that is the same size as a Safari I would buy today. I will compare them when I can.

I bought one just light that in Munich last May. It's basically a glossy Terracotta... I wonder if there is now a glossy savannah?
