I have a nice little family of Merlin pens - if my latest ebay acquisition arrives safely, it will be a family of eight, including a number of Merlin 33s, a Merlina and a Perfect. All with gold nibs, some 'Merlin' and some Bock, and all in bright celluloids.

These are cute little pens, a bit of an anachronism since they're 1940s pens made in the 1950s, and slightly odd as they were apparently made from German parts (though I don't know who was the manufacturer; some of the celluloids look similar to those used by Rodur and Osmia) but possibly assembled in the Netherlands, for the Dutch market. Germans like black pens, and the Dutch like 'oooh pretty' (as do I), though that's not the only reason the Dutch soccer team plays in orange... I wonder whether the fact that I find both types of nib reflects a supply chain issue?

Anyway, there's one particular celluloid I'd like to track down. It's a white pearlescent one, with longitudinal flecks of two colours of brown, rather like this Rodur and this Kreuzer that I own. I know Richard Binder had these a while back, but I can't remember what he'd called the celluloid; antimaccassar, or coconut macaroon, or something?

I'd be very interested if other Geeks have different pens in this celluloid, too - it's just fascinated me as it is so different and distinctive. It's almost a white tortoiseshell, but not quite.

By the way, the Rodur is a lovely piston filler. The Kreuzer feels much, much cheaper than either the Rodur or Merlin pens - it's almost a cheap knock-off of the red and tortoise Pelikan!
