Today, I'd like to show you two leather pen cases that I've made during the last few weeks. I think I'll simplify the design even more in order to speed up the making process. There's quite some time going into these, lots of stitching, each and every detail done by hand.

This week, I have also made a prototype for myself that does without the internal dividers and holds four instead of three pens (will post a pic of that one later). I think I like that even more, but I can understand how someone with more expensive pens than mine would want some form of dividers. I'm thinking tubes of soft leather.

Hope you like the cases and thanks for looking!

Nice work very neat are they two separate cases or is it the same case before and after dye.

Thanks, Michael! These are two separate cases. The pictures of the third one are still missing, as I haven't yet gotten around to taking any.

Here's another case, which I made for myself. It's a little different from the previous ones in that it doesn't have internal dividers, so there's room for four instead of 3 pens.
The way the closure loop is fixed to the front part is also slightly different. I don't like it that much, becaus it distorts the stitching line and makes it look warbly when in truth it is perfectly straight.

A walk in the park with some letter-writing gave me an excuse to take the case outside for the first time. It has since become an indispensable fixture in my bag. That and some sunscreen ...

Your pen cases are a very neat stylish design and the finishing & workmanship appear to be of high level.

Is there a particular name for this pinkish/mushroom toned leather ?

Thank you! This kind of leather is called vegetable tanned leather (or veg-tan). Unlike other kinds of leather, which are often chrome-tanned, it has been tanned with various vegetable substances (oak bark, for example, being one of them) in a process that takes months to finish.
The pink color is actually the natural color of the hide before dyeing. With it being skin after all, it'll darken through sunlight (much like us humans get a nice beach tan :) ).

Adam

A quick update of this older thread to show you a couple of cases I've done upon request over the last few months. There were some more, but I've become a bit lazy when it comes to taking pics. :)

The blue one has found a new home with a FP enthusiast in Singapore and the green one will be headed to the US next week.

Cheers,
Adam

I rather like the blue one. You can change them to any colour?

Mags, sorry for never replying! I must've overlooked the notification e-mail. I also was away from the forum for some time. To answer your question: Basically any color is possible – if a leather dye of that color is available.

Here's another one I've been meaning to post. I've finished this tonight. The color's called British Tan.

Thank you, Lady Onogaro! I quite like the British tan myself. My own case (the natural-colored one I posted earlier) might soon get a two-pen sibling in that exact color.

Very nice work, how long does it take to make one?

Thanks! I'd say there are at least ten hours going into one of these, especially sanding and polishing the edges takes a lot of time. I'm not one for exact time tracking – a thing I've resolved to change in 2015. :)
