THIS PIF IS NOW CONCLUDED

For this PIF I am offering a brand new 2013 Limited Edition Pearl Lamy Al-Star as shown below. Included with the pen is the winner's choice of either an EF, fine, or 1.1mm italic nib; four Lamy ink cartridges; a Lamy converter; and free airmail postage to any location. I have personally smoothed and adjusted the nibs for ink flow.

To enter this PIF, just post your wish to enter in this thread. The winner will be drawn at noon, GMT on Friday July 11th. The winner will be selected using Random.org and advised by PM after which he/she will have 7 days to claim their prize.

Good luck!

Murfie, I echo Vertolive's comment, an amazingly great PIF

But since I do not have a Lamy product and no restrictions were placed on entering I would be honored to be included in your PIF.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Been lurking here a while now, and can't think of a better reason to 'come out' than this PIF. Have always wanted an Al-Star, and this one looks like a beauty, so count me in. Very, VERY generous of you.

Good luck to all the entrants. No doubt, someone is gonna be real happy!

That's one of the reasons for offering a PIF or two as it encourages new members to 'come out' as you say. Welcome aboard. It's not a bad place to frequent. I've made several good friends here.

Well, i'm new here! and the Ocean Blue Lamy All-Star is the best pen i have. This color seems gorgeous! and i have 1.5 stub nib .. but found it was too big for handwriting size, so 1.1 would be superb. I'm in. Thanks for the gesture.

Well, another example of finding out I know less than I think. This AlStar is smooth and feels great! The section that some don't enjoy? I like! And I'm the person who says "There is always a reason so many people like certain things." To my list of Parkers, old and new, and Pelikan, old and new, and Pilot, old and new, and Sheaffer, old and new, is added LAMY, just new (so far).
Murfie, your generosity is appreciated. And to all the Geeks who give time, advice, support and help spread this inkfection, thank you too!

Paul

Wow, seven days delivery. That was pretty quick. The previous PIF winner only received her pens last Friday so your packet was much quicker, Paul. Glad you are finding the pen to your liking. I did a bit of work on that nib to ensure adequate smoothness as some of those steel Lamy nibs can be a bit on the harsh and dry side out of the box. And the triangular grip of the section - well, you either find it comfortable or you hate it. There's not much in between. All the best ...

DMurphy
July 21st, 2014, 08:25 PM
@Kidde - Ok so which nib did you select? The LAMY is a great pen, I have a Safari that I have just changed to an EF nib and it is my daily note taking pen.

Murfie
July 21st, 2014, 08:34 PM
@Kidde - Ok so which nib did you select?
I can answer that one for you David. I put an EF in it for Paul. But I did some work on it before shipping because some of the Lamy steel nibs can be a bit harsh out of the box. So he got a real smoothie ...

DMurphy
July 22nd, 2014, 05:56 AM
Very nice. I had seen that you had done some smoothing on the nib, I guess that I got lucky that my EF wrote very well out of the box, a little bit of bite on standard copier paper but on my Clairefontaine or Rhodia it is very smooth. Maybe I should get some micro-cloth and give it a couple of passes to further smooth it?

Great PIF Murfie, not only a great pen but to pimp out the nib?! Wow!

Murfie
July 22nd, 2014, 04:23 PM
Maybe I should get some micro-cloth and give it a couple of passes to further smooth it?
David, my own experience suggests that some of the Lamy steel nibs are quite smooth straight out of the box, but some can be a tad harsh. The 1.1mm and 1.5mm nibs seem to need more attention than other gauges. But you also have to temper the fact that what is smooth for one person is not for another and it is a matter of personal taste. It is well worth learning how to work a nib to suit your own personal preferences. In that regard I am very appreciative of very cheap Chinese manufactured pens on which I was able to hone my skills without destroying the bank account balance. Cheers ...

Hi David. My reference point on Lamy is one pen and one nib in EF. While way to old for it to be appropriate, my first thought was "OMG! What a great pen and smooth nib!" It is as smooth or smoother than any new pen I've bought, and up their with some of my classics that have be written with for decades. I'll be passing along a couple pens very soon, but it won't touch the generosity of what I was given.

Paul
