The glass bottle is protected by the bakelite tub, pretty cool.

Got it in an antiques fair in St. Andrews, the guy had a lot of fountain pen stuff. Shame I had such little money

Amazing. Are they rubber rings in the bottles to stop leaks?

ooh, this is great! Well done for spotting it, I imagine it's the sort of thing you could easily pass by in a pile of other stuff, so that was pretty eagle-eyed of you!

It makes me wonder if it's something that could be replicated somehow, to make a modern version. Maybe (probably) not as neat as this, but fun too.

Nope, it doesn't leak though. I have taken it around with me with no leaks.

I think a nice machined aluminium one would be nice. I don't think it would be difficult to make but I cannot imagine there would be much demand for such a product.

The Visconti Travelling Inkwell has a market......

I am wondering if PVC pipe, with one end cap glued on and one threaded (I have no idea how you do that) with some bottle that fits close enough to the interior diameter to fit decently snugly if you wrap it like crazy in rubber bands would work.

As you can see, I am not on the elegant end of the DIY bell curve...

PVC cap, adapter (which gives you the female threads on the end of the pipe), and plug (which screws into the end of the adapter) are all readily available at any home center. Choose the diameter to accommodate your bottle size (maybe decant into a smaller bottle for a less bulky travel container). You might have to buy a long piece of pipe, most of which would be wasted, but it's cheap.) might want to use some silicone grease on the threads, just in case.
