Hello folks. Yesterday I found a great Kaweco Dia 805 fountain pen on a flea market. It is in really good condition. The piston works very nicely, even better then my new Pelikan M200 and Lamy 2000. The only drawback is that it doesn't have original Kaweco nib but Reform 14C gold nib instead which fits perfectly. I bought the pen because it was 9$.

Got home and flushed it thoroughly with water. It washed easily. It had some blue ink residue which cleaned out with few flushes.

The Reform nib is amazing!! I was hesitating on buying the pen because of it. I thought on buying the original nib, and I'm still not sure what to do. It should have an Extra Fine nib as stated on the barrel. But this Reform nib craves to be used and wants all the attention it can get. It is buttery smooth nib, possibly Medium size. The best thing about it is that it flexes like a bungee cord. I love it! I filled the pen with Diamine Midnight Blue ink.

What do you think about replacing it with the original Kaweco Extra Fine nib?

Here are some photos.

The old Reform nibs were pretty good, the Kaweco nibs were better though.
The nib looks a bit small for the pen, so if the Kaweco nib is a bit bigger, it would look better.
Ultimately though, it's up to you whether you like the Reform nib more.

I don't think the original Kaweco nib would be bigger. It appears the original Kaweco Dia nib is number 4 which is just like this Reform. If I find good nib for good price I'll surely take it.

It sounds like a wonderful writer. I wouldn't worry too much about finding a Kaweco nib--just enjoy the pen! It looks like a nice one to me. Congrats. :)

I agree: $9?? Crikey what a find - and if it works etc, etc...

I was even unsure on that price because it doesn't have original nib and who knew it works. Now I'm glad I took the shoot.

What $9?? That's about a pint and a half of beer in London!

Haha. I know. I've been there last summer and tried one I can't remember the place :) It was really good, but not as good as this Kaweco. :P

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You can keep you eyes open for another Dia as they are reasonably common and usually not overpriced. If/when you get another one you will probably want to keep the nib with that pen anyway. Plus the 14K Reform nibs are actually harder to find than the Kaweco 14K nibs, at least for me. You won't take much (if any) of a value hit with a replacement 14K nib, and with that much flex potential buyers won't be able to focus through all of the drool anyway. If you are not looking to sell it (I don't sell any of mine) I absolutely say don't change the nib.

Edit: Yet. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring.

I would not look very hard to find another nib since you are happy with the reform nib. If you see one at a good price pick it up, especially if it is a different width than the Reform.

Like Jeph and TMac said, I won't search for Kaweco nib for now because I love this Reform. Only original Extra Fine would be interesting for completing the pen. This Reform is a keeper!
