It's their 50th anniversary this year.

This was taken a couple of years ago at RAF Leuchars.

I still don't know how they do it

Did you see the documentary about them on Sunday? It was very good. I've seen them a few times. Looking forward to seeing them again at Duxford Air Show in September.

I missed the documentary but I'm sure it'll be on iPlayer. Not sure about plans for September but there's a possibility that my brother-in-law who is very keen indeed on fast jets may be down then, and he's never been to Duxford.
The big problem is that a real air show lens is likely to cost more than a whole bag of pens :(

Wonderful! I love aircraft - and of course cannot help but gasp at these superb performances.

As for the cost of a lens, a friend went last year to Farnborough, a ticket cost £41...

I can possibly get two Mabie Todds for that money (or one quite nice one)http://www.4smileys.com/smileys/smoking-smileys/smoking_03.gif (http://www.4smileys.com)

Best wishes

Have you thought about hiring a fast lens for the air show?

I hadn't, but spending 40 0r 50 quid rather than 1800 makes a lot of sense. And I have ogled L-series glass before now...

Excellent idea. Will anyone hire me a Yard-O-Led Grand Victorian B nib for an air show (to take notes, you understand)?

Years ago I used to play bridge on the island of Guernsey at the same time each year, and the Red Arrows were regularly there at that time. This was the first pic I ever took of them and it was just as they were arriving overhead. Sorry it's not very good, but it was my old camera, and it wasn't even digital. This is from a photo

Well, I'm coming to Duxford in September to see the Red Arrows from the other side of the globe and my ticket costs make your forty-one quid seem rather puny. I did contemplate how many pens I could have bought instead, but the lure of Duxford won the day easily. The flying list for the afternoon makes for fascinating reading. My main target is the Junkers CL I replicas. The Red Arrows will have to accept second place this time. :)

They were also here a few years back, very impressive flying skills.
