Hello folks...
I've spent my second day here. First, all newbies...don't hesitate to come to the show. I'm blown away at how friendly people are. I've meet ron zorn, richard binder and Joel past president of pen collectors of America. I've spoken to many collectors and learned a lot. I have spent hours talking to people. It's been truly an outstanding experience.

So for the pics :).

There's going to be a lot of pics. Please excuse some fuzzy pics. My phone is my camera and I'm not a photo taking person.

Here's the big room. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/zejyzeva.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/yha9etag.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/y9yha2ud.jpg

It's overwhelming. All those pens. :0

The first booth I hit was Edison booth. My favorite modern pens. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/me7eva3a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/9ebuba2y.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/vyqutyga.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/qy8a9yru.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/re9uqa9a.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/2u7yre2a.jpg

This particular pen almost came home with me. It was a canceled pearlette. It was a piston filler in matte finish. You couldn't see the line between barrel and top cover. In the end I passed it up because I love color. But that matte finish had a great feel.

Then I went to the eversharp booth. The modern versions of the skyline is outstanding. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/u8ube3u6.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/vahuhene.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/uhunabub.jpg

I really wanted the limited Edison skyline. But beyond my budget. Since I live close to NYC, the pen strongly reminds me of the Chrysler building. To me it catches the time period of the 30's with a modern flare.

Then the lamy pen stood out to me. I've forgotten which one it is. I'm not a lamy fan but this metal finish was beautiful. I wrote with a sample pen and I see why lamy has big fans. It wrote smoothly with good balance. If you are on the fence buying this pen....get it you'll love it. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/e2yha7em.jpg

Here's pens that are art. Lambro pens. My crappy phone pics don't do justice. Amazing someone has the patience to make delicate and complicated scenes. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/eju3ytan.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/mubu6uqu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/3ugyteny.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/09/zu6atu4y.jpg

Onto franklin Christoph. The smoke pen with ice accents is made just for the show. It's the pen in the front.

I think I know who's responsible (http://fpgeeks.com/forum/showthread.php/2378-What-is-your-latest-pen-acquisition?p=91181&viewfull=1#post91181) for one of the empty slots there. :)

I was thinking last night that I should just go ahead and call out to the hanger and have them fuel up my plane and then fly up there first thing this morning. But then I remembered that I don't have a plane. So I just cut the grass. But it sure has been fun pretending and enjoying all the eye candy you've been so kind to post. The forum should get Tim or folks like you hooked up with Google Glass or GoPro so you can live stream.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the pics. It was hard to figure out what to take pics of.

The best experience I had was meeting up with fellow geeks. 5 hours of talking and sharing pens. We never ran out of pens to talk about.

Tracy had her beautiful visconti pens with her. Thank you Tracy for allowing me to fondle your pens. Of course this is bad news for my wallet. ;)

Dan is the man ;). He's walking encyclopedia on fountain pens. His pen collection was very diverse - cheap to expensive. Wonderful to experience all the different nibs in his collection.

Thanks to all the others - talking and sharing with you has truly been the "cherry on top". :)

I just got home. Had a fantastic day. The best part, as others have said, is meeting fellow geeks. Though only six made it this morning and I'm sorry I didn't get to see others who had to leave, it was the highlight (not counting the Pelikan M800 I bought after selling a handful of no longer loved vintage stuff.) Great meeting Dan and his family and everyone else. Hope everyone gets home safely. Looking forward to seeing folks in Philly in January.

The waterman ripple on the left is Manny's who was kind enough to offer to lend it to me for a while. He also gave me a copy of his calligraphic transcription of the Parables. Manny is awesome. All the geeks are awesome. I'm building tolerance, worryingly. So much more madness to indulge!

They said....some clear 66 were made just for the show, but were so popular they may make more. I believe I saw 65 in clear....but not certain.....the brain is a bit overloaded from all the pens....thus I could be wrong. The 66 has a great balanced feel to it and when the light hits the clear/frosted barrel...it's beautiful.

Yup, they were introducing it at the show. I'm guessing they are giving noodlers music nib a run for its money.

This music nib is very wet and wide. I tried the pilot music nib (can't remember which member got it at the DC show) and that one was more narrow line with good spring. Interesting to experience the differences in the music nibs.

I'm still on the fence about FC music nib. It's so fat, but I'm having fun playing with it.

From left to right in the case: the Waterman 7 Ripple with a Red nib that Manny lent me; the bolt action, stylus tipped ballpoint(I know, I know); B nib pilot Vanishing Point in blue carbonesque, whose skipping issues seem to be settling out a bit; a NOS Pilot Judan (my favourite purchase, I think); and a Sheaffer Balance pen and pencil, bought separately.

The sheaffer writes like an absolute dream with the fill of Tokiwa-Matsu I sneaked from the sample table -- I couldn't resist the matching.

I did my shopping over three days. I spent about two hours at the show each morning before heading off to Washington DC on the Metro for an afternoon of museums and monuments.

My first purchase on Friday was also my entry into vintage pens. The brown and grey ones write really well.
http://i1081.photobucket.com/albums/j359/tintinsboy/PenShow/IMG_0503.jpg

I then bought a 20 pen leather pen case and a 3 pen silk case from Franklin-Christoph. I love their products.

The 149 was the only expensive pen I planned to buy. Fahrney's had a fine and it was $130 less. Their prices were really good. Quite a few pens were half price.

Vanishing points are my favorite everyday pens so I bought another in green. I also got a small vintage Pelikan and my first Parker

I snapped up this great bargain from Fahrney's Sunday morning. The clip had been mis-engraved. They buffed the initials out and practically gave it away

I also bought two bottles of ink for $5 each and two Rhodia notebooks. I must not have closed the Naples Blue securely because my quart size liquids bag was full of it by the time I got home. It was fine when I put it in the bin at security.

My last purchase was this well priced Regatta

The MB Diamond deal more than paid for my Trader Pass. If I hadn't gotten in early, I don't think I would have been able to get it.

I did my shopping over three days. I spent about two hours at the show each morning before heading off to Washington DC on the Metro for an afternoon of museums and monuments.

My first purchase on Friday was also my entry into vintage pens. The brown and grey ones write really well.

I then bought a 20 pen leather pen case and a 3 pen silk case from Franklin-Christoph. I love their products.

I bought a 149 from Sarj

Good coverage of the show, some tremendous purchases! The overheads of the ballroom make me happy that the LA show (my only show) isn't really much smaller than the DC show. That said, I may try to make it to the other coast next year. We'll see.

Looks like lotsa fun, getting me psyched for next week!

Jon, the Washington pen show has two additional pen selling areas in addition to the main ballroom.

A large portion of the lobby gets taken over by the pen show (this picture shows about one third of the pen sellers in the lobby)

The fun people of Fahrneys were in the lobby with excellent bargains

Here is a picture of the smaller ballroom which is connected to both the main room and the lobby.

Thanks, Ian. It's similar in LA, and this is all just comparative. The other reason to check out DC (besides having a holiday) is that there are vendors that show up at one of these two shows that don't make it to the other. Yeah, I'll get there, one of these days!

This was my first show. I am going to check out the San Francisco show next Saturday. I'm curious to see how they differ.

Ha! I'll be there, too! It is the first year of a revamped show, so you should expect it to be much smaller. However, this could mean more time/opportunity to meet with nibmeisters, and things like that.

Jon and Ian that means you will have a chance to meet up maybe. Meeting up in DC with pen lovers like Tracy Lee for me was just excellent. You get to know each other here in the forum and can catch up in person and just chat away face to face and I find that is a dimension that makes pen shows so enjoyable in addition to hunting for a pen or five.

Yeah, I will. I'll probably get out a video per week.

Indeed, Mags. TBH, while this probably won't be the biggest pen event in the history of the world, a big part of my reason for going is to hang out with a bunch of the people I've met over the last few years. Many will be in attendance (even a fair number of the show people themselves), and it should be a lovely few days.

Well, except for the 483 mile drive.
