View Full Version : Storing Ink in Bottles With Cork stoppers

I have an old inkwell/jar that has a smooth lip instead of screw threads. So I am assuming something like a cork stopper was used originally. My question is should I do something to the end of the stopper to be inserted into the bottle to keep it from soaking up ink or helping speed up evaporation? Wax coating perhaps?

Good question.. I can't answer it, but the corks used on wine bottles don't have any coating that I know about and wine does not evaporate from the bottle, maybe you don't need to add anything to the cork, it may get mixed with the ink on the bottle.. just a guess......

Just a guess on my part and to add to the previous post. I would imagine that the cork would absorb some water vapor and stabilize itself, now sucking up the water from the ink. You should be OK. On the other hand, a wax coating shouldn't hurt.
