Just received a Danish made Montblanc 214 in excellent condition, It writes well and has a semi-flex nib. Here it is with my coral red 214.
I just noticed that the black one is quite a bit longer than the red one. The seller advertised this as a 214 but it might just be a 216. It has a 4 on the nib but this nib is definitely bigger than the 4 on my 204 (black) and 214 in coral.

I have 2 244s. One is longer than the other. Both marked 244. I suspect they just weren't as exact and the methods used not as factory like.

I've seen pictures of 146 pens that also vary in length depending on when they were produced.

The 216 is 13,6 cm long and has more girth, i have a 206 (same model but the older version), it is both longer and "fatter" than the celluloid 146.

If the cap and barrel have the same diameter of the coral one is definatelly a #4 size. Difference in length can be explained by screwing threading differences.

Thanks to all for the helpful replies.

Just to be sure compare barrel length and cap length side by side.
If both have the same length that will really means that one of the threads does not screw all the way to where it should. It should go all the way to until the section top hits the recess inside the cap.

I have done the side by side comparison, thanks for the suggestion. The barrel of the black one is longer than the barrel of the red one. Also, the cap of the black one is longer than the cap of the red one. There is also no marking on the blind cap.

How is the barrel and cap diameter? The same?
How are the clips? Similar? There are 204 and 214, Iīm not sure if they have the same length, but they have the same diameter.

Okay, the red 214 seems to have a similar diameter to the black 214. The diameter of the black one may be slightly greater. I compared these 214s to my 204. The 204 is the same length as the red 214. The black 214 is longer than both the red 214 and the 204. Also, all the nibs have #4 on them. However, the nib on the black 214 is definitely larger than the nibs on the 204 and red 214.

Maybe the nib needs to be pushed further in.

Possible, but the nib also looks broader. Maybe my eyes are just being fooled. thanks for the helpful reply.

The nibs can have different shapes.I just took some snapshots to show the difference, i havenīt got a 216 but the 206 is about the same size (itīs an early version of the 216).
The difference between a 214 and a 216 is about the same as a 144 to a 146 (iīm talking celluloid versions, i donīt know about the new ones).
