The Yama Budo has been in the pen for a few weeks, so it may be a little darker than fresh out of the bottle.

Mike,

Have you tried any comparisons of the Akkermann inks to the Diamine inks? Potter wrote me a letter with Akkermann turquoise and now I am lusting after it. Some people have said they think it's just Diamine in a prettier bottle. If so, I'd love to find something similar but not so hard to get or expensive to get.

I have not had an Akkermann inks as yet, but in general I have no trouble believing both of the following statements:

1. For certain amount of money Diamine will supply a vendor with ink in "bulk" to be bottled and branded by the vendor.
2. For a certain amount of money and possibly requiring a contract specifying minimum orders, Diamine will develop custom inks for a vendor. Then see #1.

So, even though it is likely that Diamine makes the ink, I don't assume that this implies that it is an exact match for any of Diamine's standard catalog inks. They may or may not be.

Brian Grey of Edison also believes this

Do you have any observations with respect to differences in how quickly they dry or how well they penetrate the same coated or dense papers (such as TR or Triomphe)?

The only observation of that nature that I had was that Yama Budo showed more bleed-through on the other side of the figure, but they were not written with the same pen. BSAR seems to dry quickly and to shade better, but that's just an impression. They're different inks to be sure.

Immersion test (in case you were wondering about water resistance)

Regarding the Akkerman + Diamine question, I have compared a couple here:

My bottle seems much less red and more purple than that...

The above was made with a sample from Anderson Pens, and I compared it to the original BSAR to determine that it wasn't the original. At the time I assumed that there was an old version and a new version. As of now, however, I wouldn't bet a quarter that there are only two versions, and I wouldn't bet 50 cents that there are only three. If I had known how unpredictable the situation was, I might not even have shared the above.

I still like my bottle, I have to say.

It might juat have been the colour balance on my ipad. On my laptop your photo seems more accurate.
