At work today - the Visconti Rebecca Moss RoseQuartz Hampton (14K-M) with watered MB Alfred Hitchcock which makes the barrel look darker.
I was going to flush out the pen last night but after sucking up some water it still looked plenty dark enough to write with. The ink is very close to Noodler's Tiananmen if a little more pinkish.

You watered down Hitchcock? Blasphemy!!! :-)

don't slice me up in the shower or push me down a staircase. It is only watered down cause I wanted to use the remnants.

Used a bunch of pens this morning at home doing some InCoWriMo work. Mainly Visconti.

00Photo- I miss the crimson glow on the grip section you had with the other ink.

That it certainly is. I wasn't sure about it until I saw 00Photo's pics. Absolutely wonderful. I got an email from Edison (being on their sub list), and the new added color Collier looks like it will be exactly opposite, all pearly blue with the white swirled in. I love these Colliers!

Oh, almost forgot, my pen used for today is my red vanishing point with med nib with John Mottishaw cursive italic grind, and Heart of Darkness ink. Had to some some legal stuff again.

Platinum 3776 w/music nib armed w/ Pelikan Edelstein "Turmaline"
Montverde Prima 1.1 stub and R&K "Alt Goldgrun" (how do you make the umlaut?)
Hero 715 and Organics Studios "Join or Die"
Lamy Safari FP with Noodler's "Rome Burning"

Really suspect I choose inks based on how amusing the name is....

No pictures, but I just returned from an unexpectedly extended trip on which I had two fountain pens, a Pilot Vanishing Point, medium nib, and a Namiki Falcon, SM nib. Also brought a Parker Jotter with a Monteverde gel refill, a Fisher Space Pen, and a couple of mechanical pencils. The fountain pens got the most use, but one must be prepared.

Toffer, it writes very well. The nib is just steel, but smooth, like a medium fine point, if that makes sense. It glided right over my rough G. Lalo paper without skipping, yet not too wet. It's a big boy- 7" posted, 5" without the cap. Even in my small hands, it felt balanced either way. There is a nice little opal-ish accent on the cap, but the resin mentioned on the website as blue and white near the nib is plain black. It really does appear to be bamboo with a laquer finish. Good looking pen, not too pricey: $45 from hisnibs.com.

Busy day at the office. Had to interview a job applicant first thing in the morning and emptied the Visconti's converter right there taking notes. It was a good start to the morning.

There'll be an early breakfast seminar tomorrow. Ah~ more note taking - I'm looking forward to it. :)

Bogon, yes, the Fusion is a stub and a pretty good one for a steel nib! ;-) The pen is a little short for me, and light, but I do use it fairly regularly. It is a great pen for using samples because of the easy conversion to eyedropper. I haven't ever put a converter in the darned thing!! But yes, this winter persimmon is really something else. It really reminds me of cream based tomato soup. Also a winter food.

Dude.

That is a pen very worthy of your hand - did you get it from Deb? I swear, that looks like a dip pen nib grafted into a fountain pen. People with handwriting like yours make me vacillate between awe and anger! :) I hung out with Michael Sull a while at the LA Pen Show, and he did my wife's name in Spencerian. Also saw him as part of a presentation on flex nibs by John Mottishaw. So beautiful.

A WAVERLEY! For being new old stock, it sure had alot of weird gunk in it. There was what appeared to be dried up Vaseline on the section threads and the inside was "rusted" for lack of a better term. I spent quite some time cleaning it before inking it up.

please tell which blue ink you are using, looks spectacular!

Hi Mr Bogon, very nice Delta Arctic Swirl. From the picture, the pearlescent part looks exactly like mother of pearl. That Visconti Girotondo per il Meyer looks like jolly good fun, almost sweet enough to eat.

The Arctic Swirl has really pearlescent white bits and when you turn the pen the black ribbon stripes cast what looks like shadows through it.
I think Chatterley also has a version with gold coloured hardware.

Oh no, it stained? Will pen fliush help with that? It worked to clean up some ink stains on the section of my HS Bronze. Still, it really is beautiful and the cool silver accents fit with it better than the gold, I think. Excellent choice.

Yep, on the edge of the cap and in the section threads where the cap screws on. I rather like the look of it now - reminds me of that really blue ice you occasionally see. I removed a lot of staining with some pen flush thoughtfully provided in a sample tube by GPC when I ordered Liberty's Elysium. Did Brian Goulet see into the future ? :tinfoil3:

On the blue theme at work today with a Visconti Opera Master Blue Typhoon (1.3 Stub) with Noodler's Blue Eel.

Too many pens inked at the moment, four of them. I generally try to keep it to three or fewer.

Oh well, here are two of them. Top is an Edison Hudson, 1.1 mm stub, Montblanc Irish Green ink. It's a pretty good pen, but I want to like it more than I actually do. Beneath it, one of the cheaper Sheaffer Imperials. I replaced the old squeeze converter with a modern piston type, and filled it with Noodler's Violet Vote. Works very well.

Pilot Prera (pink!), M nib, with Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire (which is a lot less interesting than I'd expect a $22 ink to be. I don't even find it a particularly striking royal-ish blue. I'll be sticking with my bottle of Rohrer and Klingner's Konigsblau once I finish the sample vial).
And once that ran out of ink, Pilot Metropolitan (gold with zig-zags) with De Atramentis Dianthus, which I really, really like the colour of... and then I discovered that I have a near-exact dupe for in the form of Rohrer and Klingner's Solferino. Maybe once I use up that bottle.
And as always, yellow Lamy Safari, M nib, with Noodler's Georgia Peach. I use it to note page numbers. :D

Toffer, everything I posted about it a while back is still true:

Still a smooth, steady writer. Really flies over Tomoe River paper.

Still eye-pleasing, a definite masculine look to it. Love staring fixedly at the bamboo parts and the little opal-ey accent on the cap.

Still strikes me as a well-made, but not pricey pen and I'm very happy with it.

<snip>
I would love to try writing with this pen. You have pointed out something interesting about primitive feeds. They were designed with the ink of the times in mind, and to be able to supply a nib that naturally flexed. Inks in the early 1900s were dryer and less free flowing than modern inks. They did not have surfactants and detergents in them. That means that if you use some modern inks like most Diamine or most Noodlers in such a pen, they will become very wet writers and even drippy.

So. I was bad. I wasn't supposed to buy any pens but this one Montblanc 334 1/2 with a wartime steel nib just sort of fell into my lap... And it was an OB nib. That's like my favorite after OBB...

(Surprise was that it is a *right foot* oblique, not left as I am used to. Oops. Now I get how you "don't rotate your pen" people feel trying to use an oblique! Weird, but I'm adaptable and already gotten pretty comfortable.)

Sorry for the messy writing.

I like its threads at the front. Lovely material too.
Yes it is a nice material although the photocopier had trouble doing it justice. Maybe not quite the same depth of luster as a Visconti but then again the Fiorenza Lux cost much less.
The threads at the front while not a problem when writing are a pain when refilling via the converter as they have to be submerged in ink and cleaning them is a bit tedeous.

Today's work pen is the fuscia Delta Fusion82 (18K-B) with Noodler's Violet. The photocopier tried in vain to capture the loveliness of this material and it really needs to be rotated to be appreciated.

I have been replying furiously to all the letters I have received over the past three to four months. I was using the Lamy CP1 in a 1.1 mm nib with Montblanc Toffee Brown the most. Next it was the Sheaffer Javelin, also filled with MB Toffee Brown with a medium stub. I must not have cleaned that one very well last I used it because it changed the ink to an almost black color. :(

Beautiful Deltas, Tracy Lee.

I happen to be using my Delta Animals Collection - Dolphin for the first time today. Its 18k EF nib was not behaving - dry ups and poor startups. Then i remembered that the pen was NOS that never got flushed before the first inking.

I have since given it a warm soapy rinse and a gentle spreading of the tines (they were very close). It seems to have improved quite a bit.

Maybe try a different nib in the Ahab perhaps a non-flex one.
The flex nib in mine has a very sharp point which tends to rip & tear the paper fibres promoting feathering & bleedthrough.

Used this one that's been sitting in a drawer for several years. A friend of mine made this out of Jerusalem Olive Wood and it had a standard kit pen nib that just would NOT WRITE. I gave up and resigned it to a drawer. I botched a repair of one of my antique store finds and saw that the nib was the same size as the kit pen nib. I put it in, and tuned the nib a bit and now, it writes!

Sweet! I have that same kit pen but it is made from wood off the U.S.S. Constitution. My brother got it for me when he did a road trip up into Canada and made a stop in Massachusetts on the way. I would like to replace the nib on it, so I will be looking out for a nib like that one. :D

I need that pen!!

I can't stop looking at that pen. Does the picture capture its true colour?

Vert Olive how does your pen compare to pictures and video from the Goulets ?

Whoops - just noticed your latest post in the Edison Family thread.
Maybe they should offer a pale version like your photo along with the regular more intense one.
Then Brian G could be doubly apologetic and have Rachel promote it.

Still using the Autumn Brown Piper Emporium(Empire) with Lie de The.

Thank you:) I agree. Whilst I do like the hot pink, I love the paler pink in this photo!

Today I did not feel like working, and it was snowing, so I took the day off and wrote letters using a Waterman #32, a Waterman #3 and a Parker Televisor.

These are the #32 and #3

no pics of the Televisor, but I will get around to it.

Jinhao599 (M) with Noodler's #41 Brown.
Even though it looks like a Safari it does not unfortunately have a Lamy style nib.
The red is not quite as orange as the photocopy suggests.

 I had to look twice to before my brain started to register the pen in that photo. I thought:"Not a Safari and not the Hero copycat either. What isssit, precious? What isssit?" (:p - have LOTR on my mind.)

Performance wise, how does this one compare to the real Safari?

They are not particularly precious at two for under $11 shipped including converters & cartridges :dirol:

It worked a bit like a Safari I forgot to flush and clean before use. A bit of an inconsistent line at times. However last night I shimmed it & gave it a quick scribble on micromesh and it works fine - actually a fine-medium nib. The plastic is not as scratch resistant as the Safari ABS & could tend to be a bit brittle by the feel of it. We will see after some more use.

Hilariously Jinhao even copied the Lamy converter where you turn the piston too. Same round rod with two flat sides.

Bought a new pen on the way to work too.

TWSBI as a weapon? Just went through airport security, where my VAC700 gave some concern. On scan, the stem of the plunger looks like a knife. So I got to show off the VAC700 (and Diamond 580). Happy to share my pen passion with the folks at Homeland Security!

Pelikan Pelikano Junior with Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue (still trying to empty out a long cartridge for reuse). Only blue or black ink pen I had around. I figured the purple that I have in my other pens wasn't appropriate for government papers (there's a lot of forms to fill out after your father dies, I've found out).

This is rather funny, because I was once held up for over an hour at parliament, for trying to get in with a black Rotring 600 (the original model). The guards wanted me to show them how this disguised pistol worked. During interrogation I made the mistake of using phrases like "the cartridge goes into. . .". It was not until an older supervisor came in, who knew what a fountain pen was, that I was eventually allowed to enter. To save the possibility of future misunderstanding they simply banned pens from a certain section, so on subsequent visits, no matter what fountain pen I have, I must hand it in to security. This despite the fact that one may only enter that section with a written permission slip.

They banned pens?? I assume you're still permitted to use a pencil. The point mustn't be too sharp, of course.

I have never tried to take a pencil in, but I just asked someone who works there and she tells me that pencils are now banned too, but as they are less likely to show up on the scanners if hidden in an inner jacket pocket it is feasible that someone could get a pencil in. However I would never try because I value my continued ability to enter that chamber and would never knowingly do anything that would put that privilege at risk.

My Prima is a green swirl also with the 1.1 stub, such an enjoyable pen to use.
The Goulet Pen Co has some of the best photographic representations of the true colour of pens around. This typifies Brian's attention to detail.
At one stage they were the only site to show the real colour of the Imperial Blue Lamy Studio while everyone else just used Lamy's incorrectly toned stock photo.
