At work today.
Pink Lamy Safari with Noodler's Purple Martin
uniball Vision Needle fine with dark purple ink (it looks almost like a black/purple version of Purple Martin)
uniball Eye micro with red ink

Also in my bag to show left handers like green.
Stabilo point 88 fine fibre tip with dark green olive ink
Pentel Ball medium R510 with green ink. This thing outbleeds most fountain pen inks. The green plastic barrel is close to that of the AppleGreen Safari

Yeah, it is a wonderful pen not only to look at but believe me, the writing experience is equally wonderful! So far it has had Hitchcock red ( naturally it was the first ink in the pen) also Aurora black and now Diamine ASA blue.

I think of all three the Diamine is the nicest, not only esthetically as it seems to match the pen well but also in terms of flow.

The nib on this one is amazing, in fact it is one of the things I love about MB, their nibs in my experience have always been lovely to write with. This one combines buttery smoothness with feedback, just about the perfect nib.. Well, if they did it with a stub then I don't know what I would do, there would not be enough superlatives!

I will confess, however, that I have it inked with a (gasp) cartridge. Sacrilege to some, I know, but I carry one of several Sheaffers every day and keep cartridges at work because I don't feel like messing with bottles here at my desk.

Very impressive penmanship Ivan. I second (or is it "third" in this case?) that.

One question: I am not familiar with the Venus brand but it looks awfully like an Osmia from the 1950s, when they were being taken over by Faber-Castell. Compare with the Osmia-Faber-Castell 884 or 883, for instance. Are there any connections between those brands?

Thank you FP_GaF.

Let's see if I remember right. I believe Venus Pens were made by the American Pencil Co. My example I think is from the early 60's. Esterbrook bought them out in the late 60's and they later got bought out by Berol. Oh wait, Berol got bought out by Faber-Castell in the 70's so yes, there is a connection. :)

Huh, what a visionary company. They aligned their early 60s product design with the company that would buy them and their parent companies out a good decade later. We just don't have this calibre of leadership anymore...

But seriously, thank you for that information Ivan. This is very interesting. Quite a story.

Will, that's a Pilot Plumix. I'm using the cartridge it came with- when it starts to get low I syringe another color of ink in there. Now it's a blend of the original blue, some reddish ink (I think it's de atramentis rose) and some good old black Quink. It's a pretty neat purple-black right now.

I considered doing an ED with this one however the threads are not particularly tight. A bit risky and out of the question for a klutz like me.

It was about $7 at Staples. It's got a really smooth italic nib in the 1mm range. I've grown to like it a lot.

New pen for me. Something to start the new school year with.

I like the color combo! Yellow and Green - Green Bay Packers! Oh and pre-season starts tonight even! Thanks for the reminder!!!

Well congratulations on the matt black Vanishing Point. They've gotten a lot of attention recently. Black ink in it I suppose ?

Geez Yellow and green .....almost the Australian team colours for Ruby Union and all those other sports.

Charcoal Safari (F) with Caran d'Arche Blue Night.

At first I was a bit disappointed with this ink considering it is approaching Irushizuku prices compared to Noodler's until I realised that the problem was the "dry" in this pen. My Aluminum Al-Star has the same F black nib but seems to write much better so I took the nib off and applied some pressure to the shoulders of the nib and now it puts out consistantly more ink.

Blue Night is an odd blue-black with a greyish purple tinge to it. I quite like the look of it.

I do feel that Noodler's Nightshade is a better match with the Charcoal Safari colourwise.

JustDaveyB is your database working properly or is it a coincidence that the inks are Catalpa, Beaver, Polar Brown and Midnight Blue.
There seems to be a lot of weighting to the top end of the alphabet.

Still using my Vista with Noodler's MidnightBlue at work.
Tried at Dymocks a Vista (M) with the Lamy blue cartridge. This producted a much darker blue than the cartridges I have at home ?
Also a Dialog but unfortunately the ink was almost dried out as no-one had bothered to retract the nib.

Looking around the 'net this morning took me to a the site of a Melbourne pen shop http://www.oldpostofficepens.com.au - Have you seen it? The interest for me is that they sell Diamine ink, though they only have a limited range - I asked what the shipping price would be. With the dollar heading north again it is probably just as cheap to source Diamine from the Goulets.

Their Diamine range is pretty limited isn't it. I notice they have a Pelikan Place de la Concorde for $650+GST. A bit more than I'd be willing to pay even for such a nice pen. They also do restorations which could come in handy for my father in law's Parker Vacumatic
Pen Ultimate or the PenShoppe in Sydney also have a small range of Diamine, I think they also have a branch in Brisbane.

New Army Green, or old Army Green?

"The Army Green really flowed out of the BlumbleBee Creaper as a very dark green colour appearing very close to a slightly yellowed Zhivago. It however dries out to a more olive green seeming to be about half way between the old and new swabs Brian displayed in his video."

I'm still not sure which one it is. Given there is often some variation between batches of Noodler's inks and this one could be tending towards the new side of halfway between the two. It's colour is really influenced by the paper and the amount of flex and ink. It tends to appear darker on a Rhodia pad than an OfficeMax notebook. Also the more flex and/or ink the more it feathers. And a lot of bleed through too.

At work today: Graphite Lamy Al-Star with 1.1mm italic loaded with La Coleuer Royale

Manoeuver, I had a Noodlers Nib Creeper Flex that would sometimes drop ink on the page like that. I tried several inks but the problem always happened after the pen warmed up to my hand. I ended up plugging a few of the slits in the feed (vertical fins) with some birthday candle wax and that fixed the problem for me. I started by plugging only one fin and ended up doing a total of 3 to fix my issue. I think my issue was that the pen was able to breath too freely, once the air expanded in the pen it just shoved the ink out of the barrel though the breather slits.

That is a sharp looking Franklin-Cristoph!

I think my issue was that the pen was able to breath too freely, once the air expanded in the pen it just shoved the ink out of the barrel though the breather slits.

That is a sharp looking Franklin-Cristoph!thanks and thanks! did you start with the anterior or posterior fins?

Similar sentiments with my brand new Jinhao15 slender glossy RoyalBlue (F) with Noodler's Mandalay Maroon (a sample thanks to Drew @ GouletsPens). A really nicely balanced pen for less than $10AUD including shipping.

Also inked up Lamy Briarwood Accent (F 14K) with Noodler's Burma Road Brown (also a sample thanks to Drew @ GouletsPens).

I used a Platinum Riviere in class today. The Riviere cost US$1.50 at Daiso, but I rather like it. Today was a mini-distaster, though. I have it inked with Diamine Oxblood. It leaked into its cap and had a generally wet nib and feed, so there were a few convincingly blood-like spots on the desk. With all that, it dried up a couple times while I had it uncapped for several minutes with no writing. That's life with a cheap pen! To be fair, it was a wet writer in the first place, and Oxblood seems to be a vigorous ink.

If it is a fake Serenite then I prefer the the Jinhao. Atleast it is straight.
The Waterman Serenite Blue with Silver Trim Trim Rollerball costs $1170.00 where as the Jinhao was less than $10 (& you can stand it vertically too)

Yesterday evening spent 20 minutes queuing at the PostOffice to collect the latest bundle of pens from eBay the red and black Jinhao15s & a Baoer801 green. I write a lot in my Leuchtturm 1917 Master journal and memoirs each day, so I have opportunity to use a variety of pens. Today I used my Aurora Afrika and Optima Resin red in my journal this morning; I did some handwriting practice with my Monteverde Invincia Stylus and then back to my journal with a Noodler Ahab.
My 10 year old grandson Owen, who is doing home-schooling with me, practiced his signature in cursive with a Sailor 1911. He likes my pens that write with finer lines and he has gravitated to the blue Sailor 1911 even though he can use any of my 18 pens when I supervise. His very favourite pen is the Aurora Optima Auroloide Blue...obviously his favourite colour is blue. I monitor his use of my more expensive pens fairly closely because he is still a little uncoordinated and I don't want him dropping any of them on the floor or even onto my hard ash table that we work on. He feels more comfortable using the Sailor.

Cheers :)
