And why an older model?
You can get a Lamy Safari, a wonderful workhorse of a fountain pen, for $30 including the cartridge converter from isellpens.com
And it will come all pretty, shiny, scratch-free, too. :-)

Good questions! Can a converter do ten pages a day in a single fill? The OP may need a Lamy 2000 for that kind of unsafe.
