good luck with the rough spot :) don't know what it is, but having had a few doozies myself lately, I sympathize with the need for a material crutch :)

Diamine Oxblood and MB Hitchcock (difficult to find now, unfortunately) look great with the redness of the aka-tame. A deep dark purple like De Atramentis Alexander Hamilton would be lovely. But if you don't like red or purple inks... I have been using Graf von Faber Castell Moss Green in my shiro-tame Piccolo, and I love the dark green with the elegant urushi. Moss Green also has lots of sheen on certain papers like Tomoe River.

Binder Burgundy would look really good with that finish.

Where would I find this?

tiffanyhenschel

It's a 1:1 mixture of Waterman Purple and Slovenian Sheaffer Red (the currently available, modern Sheaffer.) Richard Binder created it for use in his shop. It is a true burgundy, shades subtly, never bleeds or feathers, and is always perfectly behaved. Some say that Diamine Syrah is a commercial recreation of the original by Binder. I can send you a sample if you would like.

Here is a link to one of the original threads about it. http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/151648-a-true-burgundy-binder-burgundy-uh-huh/

That Binder Burgundy is one fabulous looking burgundy shade. I didn't see it for sale on his web-site before I visited Florida, or I might have been tempted. It actually looks at least as good if not better than the infamous original Noodler's BSAR. I assume you still buy both bottles and mix it up yourself.

tiffanyhenschel
October 5th, 2014, 04:22 PM
Yes. Binder Burgundy is not for sale anywhere that I know of. Both the Sheaffer and the Waterman are inexpensive inks, though, so that helps.

People have tried various other combinations of purple and red, and none turned out quite the same.

I tried the Diamine Syrah that is mentioned. It's very close, but the flow feels a little different to me.

I would think a cool, muted forest green might do the trick. I'm sure there's something suitable in the diamine music set.
