Bought at auction in 1998, the MB fountain pen shown does not have a number imprinted & was originally thought to be a 334 1/2. As it is now likely to be a "franken" pen, can anyone enlighten me as to what it really is?
It is fitted with a 14c Mont Blanc 4 1/2 Nib.

That looks like a Pelikan M600 black old style barrel and feed.

Yes, the barrel looks like a Pelikan. The cap doesn't look right though. I'm going to guess this is a "frankenpen," a pen built from the parts of a couple different pens as you guessed.

A picture of the cap would be helpful, and a top view of the nib? (What is the nib marked?)

The Nib is marked: 4 1/2 MONT BLANC 14 C. The Barrel is definitely old style M600 - it matches one that I already have - The Cap is probably Mont Blanc 344 1/2.

I'm amazed the cap and barrel fit one another! Ingenious though I'm guessing the old barrel was somehow destroyed and someone got creative. How does it write?

Just for fun and comparisons...

Some 234½s and 50s 144 next to M400

The cap swap was fortunate since my caps will not swap even between the two 234½s.

The Pen is now separated, the "Pelikan M600" writes quite nicely with its Mont blanc 4 1/2 Nib - dipped! Unfortunately it does not fill. The Mont blanc 234 1/2 Cap is good. Do I start looking for the missing parts or shall I sell them on.........
