Organics Studio Carbon Black
Lamy Safari F. Rhodia Dotpad

It's not jet black, more like a dark gray. Seems a drier write than the last ink I had in this pen (some noodlers stuff.)

What else? bit of a flaky start, pen was uncapped ten minutes or more. no biggie.

Love to try it with a broader nib to see if it shades at all.

note on the sample bottles: the neck is very narrow. few pens will be able to fill from the vial directly. My Lamy converter fit in there but filling my TWSBI 540 will require some more doing.

The verdict in the Safari w/F nib: it seems a dryish, fast drying ink. Slight shading, it shows promise for a wider nibbed pen.
speaking of which...
Here's how it looks after hot-swapping with a 1.1mm italic nib. Still a bit narrow to exhibit much shading. Let us try a smear test: 1 3 5 8 10 13 15 19 27 ok, that's enough of that.

ok, I'll recommend this ink to those who want a dry-writing gray-black ink with subtle shading. It could pass for black but it's a bit more interesting.

Bonus page: I'll use this 1.5 italic nib on my trusty Al-Star to run out the converter. I'll draw shapes and write words that don't get used in reviews but should. ......

Mmmm. I sort of like the idea of using an EF or F to get that 4B-2B pencil look.
With the 1.5 Italic it just seems like a diluted or pale black but the finer lines have a more interesting graphite look to them. Maybe the effects with the wider strokes will grow on me.

Thanks for the review.

Nice review! Did you see our Inkcyclopedia entry for this ink? I found it to have pretty good shading with wider nibs.

I did enjoy the inkcyclopedia video. Pretty sure that went live while I was waiting for my samples.

I am excited about the Organics Studio brand as a: it's a local business and b: I do so adore tiny startup businesses- I'll be keeping a close eye on Tyler.
