After selling an Item on Ebay and following the advice found in a lot of fountain pen forums i decided to hit on a 252 (which will be my 2nd pen already guess i caught the collectors fever by now) which i was able to get down to a price of 89 Euros. People told me nibs from the 50s tend to be awesome and i was looking for a fine or extra fine nib in addition to the M nib on my recently purchased 145. Now the problem is that on the cap there seems to be no Montblanc inscription, could it be a fake?

No, not a fake.

Watch out for cap cracks.

Yeah, i read about the crack problems on the 25x Series... how can you tell it´ s not a fake? I´ d like to know so i can tell the difference myself next time. Would you rather have bought a 342, a 264 or a 525? Just curious to know.

I have never seen a piston filled pre 80s Montblanc faked. Maybe someone out there has done it, but just the fact that it is a 252 would make me say "not a fake."

Making a fake of a piston filling pen, *especially* a cheap one like the 252 just isn't worth it financially. Add in the peculiar nib shape (one more thing to try to fake) and it just isn't worth it. You are far more likely to run into cap cracks, or busted filling systems on old Montblancs than fakes.

Ok that´ s good to know, i read the 25x were great writers because of their winged nibs so I went for that instead of the 342 and the 264 even though i knew about the issue of cap cracks.

No one fakes things that didn't sell when new.

So they are all nice. The 342 is really small unless posted as is the 252 and the 252 doesn't post well. The 264 is about the same size as the Pelikan 200/400 and old style 600.

Maybe some pictures might help.

the 342 is the second from the right and a 264 on the far right.

two 234½s, a 144 and a Pelikan 400.
