View Full Version : Jinhao 159 big? Really? Not if Edison Pen Co has something to say about it.

Whoever said the Jinhao 159 is a big does not know Edison Pens. I am kidding of course. The Jinhao is big but the Herald has pretty much altered my concept of big.

I already have three and now must wrestle with budgets for the Beaumont announced today.

Oh yeah, that Beaumont is a looker.

I inked the Jinhao and so far it has an above average nib for a Chinese pen. The feed provides a generous amount of ink flow and the line is broader than what I have come to expect from Chinese nibs. Not bad at all. I did not flush the pen out before inking either.

You should see the Herald Grande next to the new Beaumont! I also have a Bexley Jitterbug if you REALLY want to see contrast!

So you are saying the Beaumont is a bit petite? Hmmm.. I hadn't looked at any pictures of them where they were next to anything else. Maybe I should watch your video.

I'm a sucker for a pretty face. And Brian's Persimmon Swirl is awesome! Medium nib, it's a fantastic pen. Unposted it's the same size as a TWSBI 540 unposted. Nice size pen (but then I have huge Dutch hands too...)

I can't recall the ink I used in my 159, but it was a mediocre writer whatever the ink was. I then ditched the small converter and put in a slightly larger (I think) J. Herbin Perle Noire cartridge. It has been a much better writer since then. I'd prefer to fill from a bottle but will probably use up my Herbin carts in the 159.

It is a big a pen, but I've come to not really look at it that way as when you write with it (unposted, of course), it isn't really that big.

The Herald is clearly longer but is it thicker/wider?

The Herald is just the slightest bit thinner but feels bigger in the hand as it is longer even unposted. The Delta Scrigno is easily thicker but a hair shorter than the 159.
