Anyone know of a pen maker using G10 for their blanks?
I wish I did, but no I don't.
You might ask Shawn Newton if he'd be willing to try it. He made a pen for Ricky (AltecGreen) years ago using...(don't remember the material; just tried to find it but no luck. Maybe when fpn is back up, I'll be able to find the name of the very durable material there). Something like delphin or defron, delron, no...drat. Very beautiful light gray-green material that was difficult to work with cos more or less indestructible.
Anyway, Shawn Newton accepted the challenge and made a beautiful pen. Around the time TWSBI released its Micarta model.
there are more folks using Micarta, seems to me. but not many of those.
I have seen a couple of small batches made by Shawn Newton using G10, sold by Chatterley Luxuries. They sold out very quickly. There's one listed on their website now.
I bought a limited edition pen made for the Bexley owner's Club in 2010, from a UK seller on the dreaded well known auction site. At the time he had orange and black pens for sale, I bought the orange, the black may still be available.
All the G10 pens that I have seen have been orange or black. Does the material come in other colours?
Found the name of the material of Ricky's custom pen that Not-Shawn-Newton made: Torlon 4301. Brian Gray made it. Mea culpa.
Ricky described the material as a "weird grayish black color with nice veins of black." I remember it as a subtle grayish-green, but, as shown, my memory cannot be trusted! Well, it was ten years ago. It was beautiful, though.
