Ink Review: New Cult Pens Iridescink Philip (Made by Diamine Inks)

Cult Pens Iridescink Philip ink is one of the two latest brand new iridescent sheening inks that are exclusively made for Cult Pens by Diamine Inks. Cult Pens describe their Iridescinks as being a bit different and a bit more unusual because they are made to sheen.

Philip is a saturated, slightly blue leaning, purple ink that exhibits some really attractive contrasting gold sheen. It flowed very well with all of the pens I tried it in, felt wet, and lubrication felt smooth across the page. It took several seconds longer to dry than “Christine” on most of the papers I wrote on but didn’t smear after it was dry.

My Pilot Custom 74 always started up immediately when filled with Philip, even after I put it down, uncapped, on the table while I did swab tests and comparisons with other inks.

Philip was very wet in my Lamy NexxM pen with it’s B nib.

In order to see the most gold sheen, it’s better to write with pens that lay down plenty of ink, and use smooth, non-absorbent paper.

• Lubrication: Excellent - felt smooth across the page.
• Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
• Start-up: Immediate.
• Saturation: Saturated
• Shading Potential: Some seen with the F nib.
• Sheen: Gold sheen seen on most of the papers I used.
• Show-Through: Some seen on the papers I used.
• Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not seen on any paper I used.
• Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen.
• Staining (pen): Not seen after several days - easy clean-up.
• Staining (hands): Washed off of my hands easily.
• Clogging: Not seen.
• Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, but shows a little water resistance.
