Making a 3D printed nib unit to fit a Platinum nib & feed in a Visconti pen
I happened to spot a thread really well worth reading over on the other place where a guy called Minabeko designed and made a 3D printed Visconti nib primer unit to take a Platinum nib and feed. :)
He showed all of his detailed workings with pictures on his blog and I thought it was such a great read that we should have it over here.
I hope he joins up. :)

It would be well worth 3D printing the sections for those 1980s Waterman pens that always corrode into white crumbly plastic at the nib end. :-)

It would also be worth 3D printing some Omas nib/feed collars that can potentially shatter when you try to unscrew one. :)

Or even when you just use the pen.
Pelikan nib collars would be useful too.

All the parts mentioned, and many others, can be easly machines with a lathe.
The advantage is the possibility to use materials different from those used in 3D printing.
For example sections can be made of ebonite.
This incluide the Omas nib/feed collars, which in any case are available at some shops online.

The advantage to making the nib collars on a lathe is that you can use a material like PEEK, which I consider to be a much tougher material than than a 3D printed item, even nylon. My understanding is that its harder to create fine threads too. IIRC the Omas is 52 TPI. Pelikan is 36 TPI. Tough to print something that fine.
