Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
Yes this one is, but he made piston fillers as well although rare. Mostly c/c and steel nib but all celluloid.. he made pens for Visconti too.
Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
I have a grey marble one from the turn of the century on its way to me. Pretty excited as it will be my first (!) celluloid pen.
Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
That is a beautifully crafted pen and very elegant.

Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
I was given a pen and have thought it may be one of his but can not identify it for sure. It also has a cheaper nib that was gold plated and just says Special Iridium Pen. However I have heard he used those nibs at one time.
It is definitely hand made. You can see where the machinery did the threading on the inside of the cap and just inside the cap is a wide gold band. But one of the things that make me think it is not one of his is that the top is not screwed on. There is a simple plastic threaded top that screws into the cap to over top of the cap clip.
I do see that my clip matches the others here. You may also be able to see a white residue on the section threads. I do recall seeing a video where he used such a sealant.
EDIT- After watching the video for the umteenth time in the last few months I see that the cap ends he placed on the pens in this video did not involve screws. He simply threaded the cap end to screw into the cap top......hmm maybe I have a Kato..........
My question is, if it is a cartridge pen what cartridge fits it? The tube coming out of the back of the section is 1/8th inch wide. That would mean a cartridge with a BIG opening. Are there converters that would fit?
I had been using it as an eyedropper for the last month or so since it was given to me and last night it developed a sudden long crack in the section and leaked all over. The crack was not there the day before. Hopefully I can get a replacement.
Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
That's a nice pen mate. Are you trying to identify it? If I may take a jab, I reckon it's an Onishi Works. Cap threading or brass nut in the cap isn't definitive, some have some don't. I've seen one like yours on rakuten with the same tortoise barrel. It wasn't cheap.
Edit: http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/h...ommend_item_en No it's different, just same material but different model. I have got another one that's similar in shape with yours but in different colour. I'll post it later.
Thanks for posting yours, Ray. Lovely pen.

Thanks for posting yours, Ray. Lovely pen.
You're welcome and thanks. I do like it a lot. I never cared for the look of tortoise shell until it was in my hands. A friend who I restored some pens for found it in a second hand store! She gave it to me as part of the payment for restoring her pens.
I am just trying to find out if it is one of his or not. All the evidence seems to point to yes. My initial issue until now was the cap jewel. I had thought he always used screws from the inside to attach it. But in the video he uses threaded cap jewels. I would like to know which cartridge to use as well as which converter.
In this pic you can see how you can view right through the cap jewel through the cap

The thing is, to my knowledge all Katos have opaque finial and opaque end barrel 'jewel', and all are international cart/converter compatible. Plus the different double cap rings. I now doubt yours is a Kato or Onishi/Pent. Perhaps it's Chinese? Wingsung? Sorry I can't really help more.
Back to regular programming soon.. (Moar pics)
Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
Ok, Thanks. I have seen some of his tortoise shell pens that are translucent and you can see the threading from the outside. You can see it here in an old listing for one of his pens.

-Edit- I now see this is an Onishi pen but I believe he used left over Kato parts.
Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
This is one is model 680.

This pen is rather short and light, around Pelikan M300 short. Smooth fine nib. QUINK BB.

Bringing back an old thread here :)
I was bored and happened to see the pen again for the first time in a while and did some browsing again. I did see some Onishi pens today where he used the same material on the finial as the cap and barrel. I just wish I could find away to contact him assuming he is still around.
Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
They still sell pens, here's one of their listing on Rakuten if you haven't seen it yet: https://www.rakuten.ne.jp/gold/penro...nt/onishi.html
Re: Kato Seisakusho Company
Wow, this is the first time I have heard of them. Some of these pens are simply gorgeous. I really like the model 680. Does any know whether it is still for sale?
