I've heard of Godron in connection with a design on a pen (or indeed other objects) but have never really known exactly what it is.
However, this made me chuckle this morning when I found someone who has probably not heard of it or has gone along with his spell check correction of the word:

That's a great word. We've all seen the design on antiques but probably didn't know a word for it. The word in English is gadrooning.
