Ink Review: New Cult Pens Iridescink Christine (Made by Diamine Inks)

Cult Pens Iridescink Christine ink is one of the two latest brand new iridescent sheening inks that are exclusively made for Cult Pens by Diamine Inks. Cult Pens describe their Iridescinks as being a bit different and a bit more unusual because they are made to sheen.

Christine is a saturated, teal leaning, blue-black ink that exhibits some really attractive contrasting red sheen. It flowed very well with all of the pens I tried it in, felt quite wet, and it’s lubrication was really smooth across the page. It dried fairly quickly on most of the papers I wrote on and didn’t smear after it was dry.

My Lamy Al-Star always started up immediately when filled with Christine, even after I put it down, uncapped, on the table while I did swab tests and comparisons with other inks.

In order to see the most red sheen, it’s better to write with pens that lay down plenty of ink, and use smooth, non-absorbent paper.

• Flow Rate: Very good - not dry.
• Lubrication: Very good - felt smooth across the page.
• Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
• Start-up: Immediate.
• Saturation: Saturated
• Shading Potential: Some seen with the F nib.
• Sheen: Red sheen seen on most of the papers I used.
• Show-Through: Hardly any seen on the papers I used.
• Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not seen on any paper I used.
• Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after several days in the pen.
• Staining (pen): Not seen after several days - easy clean-up.
• Staining (hands): Washed off of my hands easily.
• Clogging: Not seen.
• Water resistance: Not sold as waterproof, and shows little water resistance.

Yes, you can easily see the red sheen with that Lamy M nib. :)

I find it really interesting how this ink behaves with the different paper types. Same pen, same ink, but different paper and different effects. Bo Bo Olson was right when he said that what you see is " 1/3 pen, 1/3 paper, and 1/3 ink. "

You're welcome. :) Yes it is easy to see the different red sheen effect, even bearing in mind these are only scans, not photos.
Maybe it's simply a case of the longer it takes to dry on the paper surface, the more sheen you will be able to see?

Is the ink named after you, Chrissy?

No it isn't. ;) The ink is named after Christine from Diamine Inks. I also have Philip to review and that one is named after Philip from Diamine Inks. :)
