Ink Review: Pelikan Edelstein Ink of the Year 2016: Aquamarine
Attachment 24252
Today I'm reviewing the latest Pelikan Edelstein ink Aquamarine I must admit I thought it would be a lighter shade than it is.
It's a well saturated blue-green teal ink.
I found it quite wet because I could see each line of writing still glistening as I wrote the next line, and I found that it took longer to dry on my 100gsm paper than several other inks I've tried lately.
I really like the colour though, and I found it beautifully smooth in the 3 pens that I filled with it. I had no problems with any dry out or hard starts while I left the caps off the pens so that I could do the swabs and comparisons.
I am aware that it is a similar colour to Pilot Iroshizuku Ku-jaku, but I no longer have that ink. Instead I compared it with Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-ro, which is more green.
It's water resistance is very good.
I'm sure it will be a really popular colour like the previous Inks of the Year have been.
Thanks to my OH for pressing the camera remote, while I turned the piston of the pen. :)

Thank you very lmuch, Chrissy for this nice review.
On my screen it looks brighter than Diamine Teal. Could you tell me if is that so, or not, please?
And there is a light sheen, isn't there?
Re: Ink Review: Pelikan Edelstein Ink of the Year 2016: Aquamarine
Thank you for the review, Chrissy. I have both Ku-jaku and Syo-ro, so I will probably save myself some money and give it a pass.

It's much brighter than Diamine Teal. In fact Diamine Teal was in my first set of comparisons but I could't make it behave in Photoshop, so I substituted in P.I. Syo-ro
I've tried again with Diamine Teal, but I'm still not 100% happy with the colour I've achieved online. Here is the comparison clip:

Oh yes, much brighter.
Definitively not for me.
Thank you Chrissy.

Thanks Chrissy, I Got some earlier in the week. I like it a lot. Not very light in color and good saturation to show up on cream Tomoe. Good contrast to my other browns and blues in the note book. Far from Yama Dori too.
Good review, Thanks again,
Dana

This ink might make a nice complement to the Amethyst I bought in December.

Thanks, but my pic isn't anywhere near a patch on your shot and thank you for your input before I took it.
Edited: In fact I have to turn that bottle cap around and try the shot again...... Now done.

Another good review and I might consider getting a bottle. More likely, to purchase the 4001 Dark Green though. We'll see.
This one is similar to the Akkerman Zuiderpark etc etc, isn't it? I love that ink!

Hi Chrissy,
Thank you very much for reviewing this ink which is very close to my heart. It is very rewarding seeing the ink in action together with the review.:)
When I entered the competition with this ink colour it was indeed of a lighter shade but I suppose playing with light is one thing and dyes / pigments behave differently and more difficult to match.

Thank you, you're welcome. Yes Yama dori is more blue

Thanks for your kind words. You're all very welcome. I will also be reviewing Pelikan Dark Green very soon.
Re: Ink Review: Pelikan Edelstein Ink of the Year 2016: Aquamarine
I really love this color--I feel like it's the teal I've been looking for! It's right in between Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo and Ku-jaku, in my opinion.
