Online club meets or shows
As it's looking like this awful pandemic will rage for quite some time, I was hoping that more groups would be keen - if they have the time and energy - to go live online. If nothing else, to maintain a sense of community in a time of crisis, small though this community may be.
Anyway, if this is happening in various places, where are the invites? There's been some talk of this recently, but even the Rome virtual show seems to have fizzled out. At least I've not had an invite for quite some time (which may mean something I guess, but would rather hope it didn't).
Having other groups online, even with limited invitational spaces available, would represent a great opportunity for those of us who are remote to interact directly with those of whom we often only have names. Personally I would love to have to chance to chat in real time with some of the experts. Even if it's just to say hi and thanks!
Maybe the online idea is dead in the water? Does anyone know more?
Re: Online club meets or shows
The Lone Star Pen Club is meeting online! Email me at lonestarpenclub@gmail.com to be added to our email list and you'll start to receive the invites.
Re: Online club meets or shows
Email has been sent via your website, Mark, and I think the meeting will be about 1pm in my local timezone. So, anticipating a later lunch, and barring any unexpected work deadlines, I should be able to watch, listen and learn! Thanks. :)
Re: Online club meets or shows
Hmm, don't know what happened there. Sent an email for an invite and heard absolutely nothing back.

I did receive an invitation after emailing. Perhaps the response went in a spam folder?
I was looking forward to meeting you, David.
Re: Online club meets or shows
Thank you, I was looking forward to meeting new people too. I sent an email via their website - but it's possible I did something wrong - and I also notified Mark by PM on here. Also, there may be a number limit I guess.
Perhaps the next one?
Re: Online club meets or shows

David, I was there last night, but coming into the meeting late, and I did ask about who joined from FPGeeks, only Guy was there.
Mark is very good at responding, so I'd check your spam folder just to make sure that you don't miss his response.
And since I have your email, I'll connect you directly to Mark via email.

Nice to see you yesterday, I was in the meeting but I came online late, so I missed the fact that you're actually guyy :)
But I enjoy your description of your focus on German piston fillers.
Re: Online club meets or shows
Thanks, Will. Just saw your email connecting me. Checked the spam folder but nothing there. It's quite possible that my request never got through due to something I did incorrectly.
Tim, what's the local time that the Ohio pen meet uses? I have to account for a lot of time-zones! And thanks for the invite too!
Re: Online club meets or shows
Woohoo!
Managed to attend the Lone Star pen club meeting today - thanks Will for the intro and Mark for the invite.
It was a lot of fun, very interesting conversations, and great to talk (almost) face to face with other enthusiasts. Everybody is so friendly!* Really enjoyed it, will definitely try to attend again, and it will try to sit on a few other pen club meets if I can get links/permissions.
Great to see Lady Onogoro, who I think was attending from LA? (may have got that wrong).
Anyhoo, can't speak highly enough of attending; everyone should at least once. :)
*I hope I wasn't too much of a nuisance.
Re: Online club meets or shows
I'm really liking this group. Very welcoming. What did surprise me, even though this weekend was my second meeting, was that the conversation is not always (or even often) about fountain pens. It's like the fountain pen connection brings people together initially, and then from there it's a more regular social group. Nice.
Interesting to see Chrissy there too - putting a face to a name is always a joy.
Re: Online club meets or shows
Hi, David. Yes, that was me there from LA (Louisiana). I enjoy meeting with the Lone Star Club--they have been very welcoming to those of us not in Houston (though Houston is not that far from me--only three hours or so). I hope to one day get to their in person meetings when the pandemic is over.
It was so nice to see your pictures of New Zealand and hear about the place you live. Of course you weren't a nuisance. Everyone enjoyed having you in the discussion.
Re: Online club meets or shows
Last night, another online pen club meet courtesy of Lone Star Pen Club.
Of course I had to miss the one last Saturday where some FPGeek members made an appearance.
No matter, we'll bump to each other sooner than later.
Their next online meeting is this Saturday, with special guest Joshua from The Pelikan's Perch.

I'm hoping to make the meeting on Saturday. Sadly the evening ones are too late for me as 7pm is 1am UK time.
I'll look forward to e-meeting you. :)

Unless something else comes up I should be there on "Saturday" (it's Sunday lunchtime for me). The one's during the week are more problematic as I am at work then, but doable on occasion.
Re: Online club meets or shows
I just left the Lone Star Pen Club meeting and I have to say it was most rewarding. They had Joshua from the Pelikan's Perch as a guest speaker who showed some of the 280+ pens he has in his collection. I would like to Mark for the invite.
Re: Online club meets or shows
Yeah, wanted to attend this one but... family time comes first. Glad you enjoyed. It's quite entertaining being a part of these meet ups.

Wasn't it great? It was excellent and I also found it very rewarding. All of those Pelikan pens we saw and heard about. Wow!!!
Sorry if I didn't manage to match up your name with your avatar.
Thank you Mark for the invite. :)

I'm sorry but I missed you too even though I scrolled around the windows trying to recognize someone. :(
The only person I recognized was Joshua (obviously!) but I didn't know if any other FPGeeks would be in attendance. I guess this is one of the downsides of using avatars and usernames.
Since these Zoom meetings will be the norm during the next year or so maybe we should consider organizing some type of international meet up.
