Diamine brownish ponderings
I now have Terracotta and Ancient Copper in hand, in addition to Sepia, with a 30ml of Rustic Brown and Raw Sienna on the way.
I think I've cured my lack of interesting browns ;)
When I did a quick swab with the Terracotta I was fairly certain that it must just be re-packaged Ancient copper, but in an actual pen the Terracotta is much lighter! Tonally they're definitely almost identical though.
Note that the swabs are top to bottom: Sepia, Terracotta then Ancient Copper

Re: Diamine brownish ponderings
I have some brownish ponderings to add should you wish to see them. Not all of them are made by Diamine, but most are:

I have some scanned brown swabs that include both inks:

Thanks for that brownscan, Chrissy! Alas, as many browns that I have, I have none of those.

Those are only the first eight I thought of. I could add a few more.....Kaweco Brown, Monteverde Brown, Levenger Cocoa, Parker Penman Mocha etc if you're at all interested.

Here is an undoctored scan of my browns that I keep with several other scans next to my ink box. The factory Caffe Crema was darkened a bit by adding some black.

I've found the appearance of a brown ink can vary considerably depending on the paper. Montblanc Toffee will sometimes appear dark grey, and other times much lighter than in this scan, on different stationary and vintage or contemporary postcards. Browns seem to be effected more so than other colors I have.
Re: Diamine brownish ponderings
For some reason all the browns shown so far look quite nice to me. Thanks for posting. I recently bought a bottle of Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown and was disappointed in how boring it looked. Perhaps it would be better on something other than white paper, but to me it looks like the brown in a kid's watercolor set.
Re: Diamine brownish ponderings
Fred what colour is your Stipula Calamo ink? I don't know of a SC brown and think that maybe you missed off the colour on your scan. Might it be Musk Green?
I really like that Robert Oster Café Crema. :)
Re: Diamine brownish ponderings
Interesting - my Stipula Calamo turned out way different than Fred's.

edit: gessh do I feel dumb.. thanks for the clarification Chrissy
Re: Diamine brownish ponderings
Stipula Calamo is the brand name - Stipula plus the fact that it's their ink type - Calamo. There are several colours of Stipula Calamo ink.
There is also a colour name on each box and bottle. Brown is probably Sepia, or if it's a greenish brown then it might be Musk Green.

Brownish green, or vice versa. This is the only bottle of Calamo I ever bought, and I've mistakenly thought "Calamo" was the name for the color! There is no other information on the bottle other than the dot of the ink on the front label. If the color was printed on the box, that's long gone.

Brownish Green sounds like Musk Green to me. :)

Careful. Next thing you know you'll have 22 bottles of brown ink. So I'm told. Not that I'd know, obviously...:bolt:
Re: Diamine brownish ponderings
Also, there is Diamine - "Lion Rock"
A Hong Kong Exclusive.
It's a deep brown (like chocolate brown) that sheens emerald green.
Its my grail ink and I'll have 2 bottles of it in my happy little hands next week.
I can't wait! I think I may devote the Penbbs-456 solely to that ink.
