FPG Refugees Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
Feel free to post any information in this thread regarding the influx of refugees from FPN. This has to be the fourth time, at least, that a large scale population movement has occurred in the last 8 years since I've been here. We wish them all well, and remind everyone that there is somewhere between "virtually none" to "no" moderation or administration of this site. We haven't seen Eric in years.
Have a great week!

What’s prompting the exodus this time?
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
Site has been down for the better part of a week now. Database corruption forced an unscheduled software upgrade that has proven to be quite challenging (just going by the update messages).

You can go there and all will be clear. https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/ :)
They've been down for quite a while.

You noticed, too? Even Wim has sneaked (snuck?) in and out.

There were a couple of known entities that made it clear, plus the traffic. I'm in observation mode.
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
So far I see not much new in the new member area.
Any increase in traffic and active members would be highly welcome.
But it seems that many still tolerate censorship, strange rules, commercialization, and mods with almighty fantasies on the dark side.
The other question is will people which are looking over the fence caused by the downtime of the dark empire stay after their downtime is over?
I think most people tend to participate only in one forum of a specific topic.
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
I've noticed the traffic and read the technology thread about it but if Wim sneaked in then his appearance passed me by.
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
I'm just happy to have a place that others can come to, even if for a short time, even if no intention of saying hello or anything else. I've been in that position before where a big site went down - a couple times - that a lot of people counted on for their social interactions. It doesn't matter how *I* view another place, how *I* think it treats people, they like it. And if it goes away, for short or long duration, I think it is a good thing that there is an alternative, and that for however long they stay, it's a positive experience.
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
I joined FPG on November 9, 2016 after merely "lurking for more than a few years.
My choice to join this site was not out of dissatisfaction with FPN but pure despair from the events that had just taken place. I am still enjoying viewing this forum & happy to see familiar faces from FPN when I visit here. I have faithfully read new posts on this site, daily since joining but posted infrequently & posted little on FPN as well. I enjoy both sites & appreciate the opportunity to visit both.
I am sorry that others have found their way here from unpleasant situations on FPN but since I have not I am happy to see them here & appreciate the chance to see their posts here.
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
Oh, boy: I just realized that the post I made, including the in-editable thread title, have a typo. I was posting from my iPad, something I don't normally do, and it auto-corrected "refugees" to "refuges".
I'm very sorry I didn't see that initially and will now be chagrined for the duration of the internet. Please mentally correct this in your reading. ;)
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
One such FPN event in 2012 is how I ended up here. Still here. Sorry, not sorry. ;)

You are still here, but also still there before its possibly temporary demise, as is the case with some others posting here.
I have never been impressed by forums bagging forums. It goes nowhere. There are differences in forum structures, conversations, and detail of interests as A Smug Dill commented above. Good.
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
You will find that topics here vary to a greater degree here than there. Drift is much better tolerated here, with quite a few digressions being highly entertaining in their own right. Contrast that with the debacle that happened over there about drift in Pay-it-Forward threads.
The upside of this place is that you can pretty much post what you like. The downside is that you can pretty much post what you like. :)

Dill! Good to see you over here. Careful where you step (watch the bottoms of your shoes....) ;)

I also came here due to a crash of FPN long time ago, but I am also an active member of:
Fountainpennetwork
penexchange.de and
stylo-plume.org
That's why I have to divide my time on the different boards...

She cares a great deal about this. In turn, we care a great deal about her. We also have a fund started for when she goes in the nuthouse with all her inks in tow...

ROFL I'm getting older and we're in lockdown mode in England again. That could easily be closer than you think......
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
I see no need to suggest there is a competition between the sites. If ou don't like FPN, don't go there. I like having both and for the most part enjoy the participants in both forums. Folks get banned and some leave voluntarily which says where people are, drama will soon follow...LOL!!
Re: FPG Refuges Status Area: The 2020 FPN Diaspora
Happy to say I'm equally disliked in both made-up worlds.
I've been doing these made-up world things nearly 40 years (since the early BBS day). There probably isn't a made-up world I was part of that didn't eventually expel me.
Humans and I are not entirely compatible. When I write my final report they will not fare well.
