Nice review, dneal, thank you. :) It looks to have a little green in it, which would be right up my alley, so to speak. Other online images make it look too blue for me, but then Mountain of Ink has it next to Robert Oster School Blue (which I should not like, and yet do), and they're quite similar. I may have to sample this ink - if it's still around in 2025. :D
I've thought I've seen green several times, but am confident now that it doesn't. I'm sure there's a paper towel chroma-thingy sample on the interwebz surely showing green though.
It's a confusing ink. They've probably captured the true range of indigo, as my best description.
From The Debate Over Indigo
a color between blue and violet in the spectrum
True. There's no red (ergo no violet) in this ink, best I can tell. It's strictly Blue, it seems (or indigo, rather).
I thought, I had to to wait till next holiday season for a batch of reviews ;)
The colour is a pleasing/handsome blue....I like but not enough to splurge on it :)
Even my wife is stumped. She didn't believe it was the same ink.
Me: What do you think of this ink?
Her: Which one?
We're calling it Voldemort Blue. The blue that can't be named.
Wow, so pretty! Your handwriting is beautiful. I can definitely see the Prussian blue in there.
Great Review! Many Thanks dneal!
Thanks for the review. :) It sounds fascinating and nice enough to try out.:)
The 'revived' Renegade Blue thread, and catbert's update with the chroma stuff, prompted me to give it a try.
A strip of coffee filter, drop of Bleu de Minuit, with the end in the water. I had a few different variables (time, location of drop relative to the water, etc...), and this is about as good as it's going to get.
It's still a little wet, but it's up against glass with natural light behind it.
I'd say a true indigo. Blue with a hint of violet.

Here's another. I wet the strip, placed it horizontally with an ink drop in the middle, and it spread like this:

The 2nd one is truly spectacular [emoji106]
Thanks. I think it’s the “true tone” thing Apple does with their displays, but right now it looks to me like there’s green or teal in that second pic. In person it’s a sky blue.
Great job dneal. :)
Only for information I used to use coffee filter paper but switched to cutting sheets of plain white kitchen towel sheets into approx. 1" strips because they are cheaper. :) I keep watch and remove them from the water as soon as I see they don't produce any more colour. However, I move the strip to the front outer edge of the container until the spread has completely finished. Too much time in water can sometimes begin to wash out the colour.
That blue/green at the top of the first strip is a common dye that appears in many blue inks but I don't know what it's called. The presence of that purple dye usually suggests a "royal" type of blue as some blues contain it and some don't.
I think the violet is significant mainly in proportion (there’s so little of it in relation to the blue).
Although I’m sticking with true indigo, to be as precise as I can; I still like “Voldemort Blue” the best.
This pic from the linked article is interesting when compared to the top of the first chromathingamajiggy pic.
